CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos scored early and often as they cruised to an 11-0 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Sunday afternoon at the West Varsity Soccer Pitch.
 
Calgary is now 3-0-1; Winnipeg is 1-3-0.

Tessa Miller got the ball rolling five minutes in as she bent one past the Wesmens goalkeeper Taylor Thorkelsson.
 
The flood gates opened from there as the Dinos managed to score an alarming eight goals in the first half. In the first 45 minutes, Ann Stranges produced a hat-trick among her five points on the day, while Nikki Furukawa and Jordan Smith each found the back of the net twice.
 
The Dinos potted three more goals in the second half, all coming off the foot of second-year Amy Hockings.  The forward took advantage of a penalty kick in the 57th minute to make it 9-0. Hockings added two more coming in the 72nd and 85th minute to round out the scoring and complete the hat trick.
 
Calgary outshot Winnipeg 35-10 in the match.
 
The Dinos are next in action on Sept. 22 as they host the UNBC Timberwolves. On Sept. 21, Winnipeg visits their provincial rival, the Manitoba Bisons.

Bisons-Pronghorns Stats

LETHBRIDGE, AB – In a match-up of two winless teams early into the Canada West season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Manitoba Bisons battled to a scoreless tie.

With the tie both teams earn their first points of the season and their records move to a matching 0-3-1.

Horns starter Taylor Thomas and sub Micaela Stone combined for the shutout, while Brittany MacSween earned the blank for Manitoba.

Stone and Thomas combined for 12 saves to earn the teams' first clean sheet of the season, while MacSween was credited with three saves on the day.

The ‘Horns will host the UNBC Timberwolves for one game next Saturday and the Bisons will host cross town rival Winnipeg Wesmen next weekend.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - Rookie forward Taylor Lamb scored the winning goal for the Mount Royal Cougars in their 2-1 road victory over the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday.

The Cougars advance to 2-2-0 while the Timberwolves drop to 0-4-0.

As the two new members of the Canada West bragging rights were on the line on Sunday afternoon at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League fields for the UNBC Timberwolves and MRU Cougars.

UNBC opened up strong, playing the ball down the right wing to create shot opportunities. Their work paid off in minute eight when Sydney Wilson found the back of the net on a rebound.

In the 62nd minute, Mount Royal got one of their own as Karlee Hodl knocked a high shot across to the far side of the goal, past the outstretched hands of UNBC keeper Jordan Hall to tie it at one.

The Cougars quickly followed with another goal in minute 68, when Lamb gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead.

Mount Royal will host the #4 Victoria Vikes on Sept. 21, followed by the Fraser Valley Cascades next Sunday. The Timberwolves' next set of games will be on the road, at Lethbridge and Calgary the same two days.

Cougars-Huskies Stats

SASKATOON - The Saskatchewan Huskies earned their third straight victory to open the season with a 2-1 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday.
 
The game-winning goal in the 81st minute came off the head of Nicholle Morrison from an Erica Parenteau corner kick. Morrison came into the game in the 71st minute and helped spark the Huskies offence for a late goal to keep her team undefeated.
 
With the win, Saskatchewan moves to 3-0-0 to stay at the top of the Canada West early standings. Regina drops to 2-1-0.
 
Jenelle Zapski opened the scoring for the Huskies in the 35th minute with her third goal of the season.
 
The Cougars broke through in the 84th minute when Meagan Cormier's free kick sailed just over Saskatchewan keeper Cara Santaga's outstretched arm to pull the visitors within one.
 
Regina will head home to take on the UBC Thunderbirds and the Trinity Western Spartans next weekend, while Saskatchewan will face the same teams on opposite days.

Bisons-Dinos Stats

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos captured their second win of the season on Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Manitoba Bisons 3-1 at McMahon Stadium.
 
Three different Dinos scored in the win including Tessa Miller with her third of the season, along with second-years Mataya Blakney and Nikki Furukawa.
 
The game started off sloppy with both teams trying to take possession. In the 12th minute the scoring finally opened with a goal from the visting Bisons. With a ball crossed from the deep corner, defender Courtney Addison was open in front and she beat Calgary goalkeeper Lauren Good to give Manitoba the go ahead goal.
 
The Dinos host the Winnipeg Wesman back at West Varsity Pitch on the University of Calgary campus at noon on Sunday, while Manitona moves on to play at Lethbridge on Sunday.

Cascades-Spartans Stats

LANGLEY, BC - The Fraser Valley Cascades were defeated on Saturday by the CIS #1 TWU Spartans 2-1.  The Cascades record falls to 1-1-1 for 4 points, as TWU ‘s record improves to 1-1-1 for 4 points.  It is only the regular season meeting between the two rivals this year.

The Spartans hard work paid off in the 27th minute when Lindsey Pulice set up Krista Gommeringer, who beat UFV's goalkeeper Kayla Klim, Burnaby, BC to give the Spartans the one goal lead. Alessandra Oliveiro made it 2-0 TWU before the half.

Late in the second half, Spartans' goalkeeper Rachel Bedek surrendered a goal on a great set up by Paige Friesen to Lana Rockhill, who scored her first goal of the regular season in the 90th minute.

Vikes-Thunderbirds Stats

VANCOUVER - Amidst a dense fog at David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium, the CIS #7 UBC Thunderbirds came together and emerged as a team with their first win of the season over the #4 Victoria Vikes by a score of 1-0.
 
Following a fairly evenhanded, scoreless first half, UBC's first point came from an own-goal by Victoria in the 64th minute of play when a miscommunicated pass by Vikes defender Mallory Hackett rolled past her goaltender Tanya Jones and into the back of their net.

The win marked the first of conference play for new UBC head coach Andrea Neil.
 
UBC is now 1-0-2, with UVic falling to 2-1-0.
 
Next weekend UBC heads to Saskatchewan where they will face the Regina Cougars on Saturday, Sept. 21 and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Sunday, Sept. 22. Both games are at 11 a.m. Pacific. Victoria has road games at Mount Royal and Alberta next weekend.

Wesmen-Pronghorns Stats

LETHBRIDGE, AB – With a goal in extra time from a long range free kick, the Winnipeg Wesmen earned their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday.

With the loss the ‘Horns remain winless at 0-3-0, while the Wesmen improve to 1-2-0 on the season.

Laura Carroll scored the game-winner for the Wesmen and Danielle Comeau registered the other marker. Emily Felker responded for the Pronghorns with a goal from the penalty spot.

The ‘Horns will wrap up the weekend hosting the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and the Wesmen will conclude their Alberta swing a game in Calgary versus the Dinos.
