EDMONTON - Looking to rebound after a disappointing game the previous night in Calgary, the Alberta Pandas Hockey were able to do so in convincing fashion, shutting out the Mount Royal Cougars 3-0 Saturday night at Clare Drake Arena.

Kirsten Chamberlin stopped all 17 shots she faced, earning her fourth shutout in just seven games this season. Cayle Dillon, Alex Poznikoff and Amy Boucher scored for the Pandas, who remain in second in Canada West with a 13-5-4-0 record. 

The loss drops Mount Royal to 8-12-1-1, as they remain in the sixth and final playoff spot.

While not their cleanest performance of the season, the Pandas jumped ahead early, and never relinquished their lead. Dillon opened the scoring eight minutes in, beating a screened Emma Pincott with a shot through traffic from the point. 

Despite firing just 17 shots on goal, a high number of the Cougar shots came from danger areas. Chamberlin was displayed outstanding rebound control, limiting the Cougars to few second-chance shots. 

Poznikoff doubled the Alberta lead in the second, blowing a rocket over Pincott's shoulder for her ninth goal of the season. 

By far the Pandas best period came in the third, as they spent a majority of it in the Cougars zone icing a two-goal lead. Chamberlin was required to make just three saves, which she did with ease. Boucher sealed the Pandas shutout win with an empty net goal late in regulation. 

The Pandas will remain at home next weekend, as they host the Regina Cougars on Friday and Saturday. MRU will battle their city-foes in a home-and-home series with Calgary.
