CALGARY – Friday night, the Mount Royal Cougars women's hockey team defended their territory from the Regina Cougars at the Flames Community Arenas. While Mount Royal had just won their last two games, Regina had lost theirs. The game came out to a score of 3-3 after a struggle. While Regina lead the game initially, the Cougars steadily caught up and in the second overtime won the game.

Scott Rivett, Mount Royal Cougars' head coach, said the second overtime was due to practice. "We had actually practised 3-on-3's last practice, as we hadn't gone into a second overtime in a while. That, and our goalie making the saves when we needed it were important in getting us the win tonight."

Within minutes of the puck-drop, the puck fluttered across Regina goalie Jane Kish's net, and she had to be sharp again during a break-away, but the first goal of the game came from her team. Tamara McVannel's slapshot beat Mount Royal's Zoe De Beauville.

The second period began with Regina up by one goal. Mount Royal took the puck-drop, anxious to catch up to the other Cougars. Instead, Regina scored their second goal in a row with a shot from Regina forward Emma Waldenberger. Mount Royal crept back into the game with a goal from Tatum Amy, bringing the score to 2-1 for Regina. Hungry for more, assistant captain, Mackenzie Butz scored bringing the game to a tie. Before the period ended Regina struck back, and Waldenberger scored once more putting her team back in the lead.

For the second time, Mount Royal entered the puck-drop at a one-goal disadvantage. Following a lull, the Cougars took got their third goal with a shot from Daria O'Neil. and this score wouldn't budge for the rest of the period, sending the game into overtime.

Overtime solved nothing and the second overtime began with an immediate breakaway from Regina, but Tianna Ko slid in to block the player's path. De Beauville flung herself onto another shot, as Regina continued to put the pressure on Mount Royal. Back the other way on a two on one Breanne Trotter fired a wrist shot right past Kish, winning the game for her team.

The Booster Juice Player of the game from Mount Royal was Breanne Trotter. The Booster Juice Player of the game from Regina was Emma Waldenberger. The two Cougars will rematch Saturday, again at the Flames Community Arenas.
