EDMONTON - Despite outshooting the Lethbridge Pronghorns 46-13, the Alberta Pandas needed a shootout to secure a 1-0 win, Friday night at Clare Drake Arena.

Alex Poznikoff scored the lone goal in the shootout for Alberta (7-2-2-0), who capture their fifth-straight conference win, and fourth-straight via a shutout. Rookie Panda Halle Oswald stopped all 13 shots she faced, earning her third shutout of the young season.

Lethbridge goalie Alicia Anderson earned her fourth shutout of the season, setting a new Canada West record with 46 saves in the clean sheet.

The Pandas peppered Anderson and the Lethbridge net all night, dominating offensively for all three periods and into overtime. Anderson, however, was stellar, making countless highlight reel saves to keep her side in the game.

Alberta was also completely shutout on the powerplay, finishing 0-6. Lethbridge was unsuccessful on their three powerplay chances.

Defenceman Cayle Dillon finished with a game-high eight shots for Alberta, with Poznikoff not far behind with seven. Jordan Doram led Lethbridge with three of their 13 shots.

The Pandas outshot Lethbridge 28-10 after two periods, and 37-12 after regulation. Alberta added another nine shots in the two overtime frames, including three on a powerplay in double overtime, but were unable to beat Anderson.

In the shootout, each of the first four shooters were stopped by the respective goaltenders. Poznikoff finally beat Anderson with a backhand-forehand deke, before Oswald Alli Borrow to secure the win.

The two teams will finish their weekend series tomorrow afternoon, with puck drop in the series finale scheduled for 2:00 p.m MST.
