LETHBRIDGE – Following a scoreless 60 minutes, it took the Saskatchewan Huskies only 16-seconds in overtime to score the winning goal, beating the Lethbridge Pronghorns 1-0 in Canada West women's hockey action.

Following an initial Pronghorns rush, Leah Bohlken and Abby Shirley broke out on a two-on-one, with Bohlken sliding a pass over to Shirley, who made no mistake to give the Huskies their third win in a row.

The win improves the Huskies record to 2-1-2-0, while the Pronghorns suffer their third loss in a row but earn a point and their record moves to 1-3-0-1.

Making her first Canada West start, Huskie Freshman Camryn Drever made 22 saves to earn her first Canada West shutout. Pronghorn goaltender Alicia Anderson was stellar all night, turning aside 38 Huskie shots in the loss.

The Pronghorns opened with some early offensive pressure off the initial face off with Brett Campbell having the first quality chance but her backhand was shouldered away by Drever.

While shorthanded, Huskie forward Rachel Lundberg intercepted a Pronghorns pass and had a great chance to open the scoring. Lundberg went to her backhand on a partial breakaway but 'Horns goalie Alicia Anderson stayed right with her to make the save.

Following a successful penalty kill, the Huskies took their turn with pressure on the Pronghorns but Anderson was equal to the task and finished the period with nine saves. The Pronghorns forced Drever to make six saves in a scoreless opening frame.

Continuing with the pressure from the second half of the opening period, the Huskies jumped on the Pronghorns in the early going of the second recording six of the first seven shots in the period.

With two consecutive power plays, the Pronghorns attempted to change the momentum of the game but the Huskies penalty kill continued their stellar play, killing off both penalties and extending their streak of killing 15 straight penalties to start the Canada West season.

On a late power play of their own, the Huskies added to their shot total but could not sneak one past Anderson. In the second the Huskies outshot the Pronghorns 15 to 6 but the game remained deadlocked at zero.

The Pronghorns and Huskies traded chances in the opening of the third period but neither team was able to break the tie. Tricia Van Vaerenbergh had a good look from the left circle for the Pronghorns, while Jordyn Holmes had a point blank shot from the slot for Saskatchewan.

In the final frame the Huskies outshot the Pronghorns again 14-10, but neither team was able to get a puck past either goaltender through 60-minutes, setting up Shirley's heroics only seconds into overtime.

The Pronghorns and Huskies will meet again tomorrow night at Nicholas Sheran Arena, puck drops at 7:00 p.m. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv
