CALGARY - The Mount Royal Cougars and University of Alberta Pandas, played the second half of a home-and-home Saturday at the Flames Community Arena. Yesterday the game in Edmonton resulted in a 7-0 win for the Pandas.

Alex Gowie, Pandas forward stated that despite the win yesterday the team wanted to improve saying "We want to keep doing everything better. We want to do better breakouts, better checking and perfect every little thing we can."

It was the Cougars though that came out fly and took the lead in the first period, and the score didn't budge until the third when the Cougars stepped even further ahead of the Pandas. The game concluded with a 3-1 score for the Cougars.

Within minutes of the puck drop, the Pandas began to buzz around the Cougars goal and MRU goalie Zoe De Beauville was put under pressure. The Cougars repaid their goalie's efforts with a goal against the Pandas, only the third they conceded all season. Camryn Amundson slotted home a rebound left by Alberta's Halle Oswald. Shortly after the Cougars would find themselves up 2-0 as Kate Scidmore scored in nearly identical fashion. Before the first 20, however, the Pandas would cut the lead in half thanks to a Kelsey Tangjerd goal, leaving the first period 2-1 with the Cougars leading.

The game idled during the second period and both teams took nearly the same amount of shots, though no goals were scored.

In the third, however, both teams had chances. Ultimately it was MRU who were the only team to score in the period. Tianna Ko slapped home a one-timer; the clock ticked all the way down and the Cougars ended up taking the game after a fierce battle. The Booster Juice Players of the Game were Camryn Amundson from the Cougars and Kelsey Tangjerd from the Pandas. The Pandas' next game will be Oct. 26 at the University of British Columbia, playing the Thunderbirds. The Cougars will next play at the University of Manitoba, battling the Bisons Oct. 27.
