CALGARY - The Mount Royal Cougars' and the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds' women's hockey teams played a rematch on a snowy Saturday afternoon just seventeen hours after their last game concluded in double overtime. Thunderbirds defender Mikayla Ogrodniczuk said going into the game "we definitely have room for improvement in this game, but we're looking to secure another win and play another solid game." At the end of the day, they did just that, earning themselves a 3-0 victory.

The first period opened quickly and both teams were managing to take more shots than the day before, but none were going in. That is, until a shot from Thunderbirds forward Jenna Fletcher flew past Zoe De Beauville, bringing the score to 1-0.

The second period was one the Cougars would like to put behind them. Just 1:38 into the second period the Cougars found themselves down 2-0 after a goal by UBC's Emma Hall. Moments later MRU's Morgan Ramsey was given a penalty and on their power-play, the Thunderbirds scored another goal. Forward Ashley McFadden, brought the score to 3-0 T-Birds. The Cougars had a few quality scoring chances, but couldn't convert and were held scoreless.

Going into the third period three goals down, the Cougars had heavy pressure on their backs. Unfortunately for the over one hundred MRU fans that were at the FCA, the Cougars couldn't solve 'Birds goalie Tory Micklash who picks up her first shutout on the year.

The Booster Juice Players of the Game were Jenna Fletcher from the Thunderbirds and Breanne Trotter from the Cougars. Next weekend the Cougars will play a home and home with the Alberta Pandas and the Thunderbirds will return to Calgary to play the University of Calgary Dinos.
