REGINA - Jaycee Magwood's goal with less than a minute left helped the University of Regina women's hockey to a 3-2 comeback win over Mount Royal at The Co-operators Centre on Friday night.

Magwood was one of three Cougar players who logged a goal and an assist in the game, as Emma Waldenberger and Shaelyn Vallotton also registered a goal and a helper. Kate Scidmore and Tatum Amy scored for the visitors.

The Cougars didn't lead until there were just 48 seconds left in the game, when Magwood banged home a rebound after an impressive Jordan Kulbida rush down the right wing. Magwood's 11th career game-winning goal put the Cougars up for good as Jane Kish and the defence held off a frantic MRU attack.

Scidmore opened the scoring late in the first period, working around a Cougar defender with a nifty move and a quick wrist shot past Kish. Vallotton brought the Cougars even midway through the second, taking a cross-ice feed from Magwood and ripping a slapshot over the shoulder of Zoe De Beauville.

"I feel more confident stepping up and getting shots through, where last year I was kind of learning the ropes," Vallotton said after the game. "Coming into my second year I've been looking to be more aggressive offensively."

MRU climbed back ahead at the 4:55 mark of the third period, as Amy scored a powerplay goal from right in front of Kish. The Cougars replied once again, with Waldenberger (pictured) knocking a loose puck in for Regina's second powerplay marker of the game. Vallotton and Ireland South picked up assists on the goal.

"We competed hard and refused to be outworked, and that's what we need to do to win games in this league," head coach Sarah Hodges said. "Lots of girls have stepped up from last year, and that's good to see."

Kish made 16 saves for her first win of the season. De Beauville stopped 27 shots in the loss.

The Cougars and Mount Royal will face off again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
