EDMONTON – The Manitoba Bisons, UBC Thunderbirds, and Alberta Pandas dominated the 2017-18 Canada West women's hockey all-star and all-rookie teams announced Wednesday ahead of this weekend's conference semifinals.

Both Manitoba, the Canada West regular season champs, and Alberta, who finished fourth, had five players honoured. The third-place Thunderbirds landed four players spread across the three teams.

In terms of Manitoba and Alberta representation on the conference's top all-star squad, each program earned a pair of honourees. Manitoba's Erica Rieder (D) and Jordyn Zacharias (F) were joined by Alberta's Autumn MacDougall (F), who was the conference scoring leader with 30 points, and Alex Poznikoff (F), who was second in the scoring race (23 points).

UBC had one first team all-star (D – Celine Tardif), a second teamer (F – Hannah Clayton-Carroll), and a pair of all-rookies (F – Ireland Perrott, Shay-Lee McConnell).

Along with Manitoba, Alberta, and UBC, the Saskatchewan Huskies were the other CW school to earn multiple all-stars. Goalie Jessica Vance, who posted a Saskatchewan single-season record nine shutouts, was a first team all-star, while veteran Kaitlin Willoughby was named to the second team.

Unsurprisingly, the conference's top four teams dominated the all-star and all-rookie teams after distancing themselves from the pack this season. Outside of the big four, only Lethbridge's Alicia Anderson (G – second team) and Regina's Jordan Kulbida (F – all-rookie team) earned honours.

The conference playoffs resume this Friday when the Bisons and Huskies – fresh off first round byes – host Alberta and UBC respectively in the CW best-of-three semifinals.

You can watch both semis by tuning into Canada West TV – the official streaming home of every conference women's hockey game.
