WINNIPEG – Red hot Bison forward Jordyn Zacharias scored two goals in the fourth ranked University of Manitoba Bisons' 2-1 women's hockey win over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Wayne Fleming Arena on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Manitoba has now won seven games in a row, moving their record to 9-3-0, and sit atop the Canada West conference, with the loss, Lethbridge drops to 4-6-1.

Lethbridge goaltender Alicia Anderson drew the start in goal on Saturday afternoon, coming off a 39 save performance in Friday night's loss. Anderson proved to be a tough wall to bring down this weekend, but Zacharias was her nemesis. After playing the shootout hero in the win on Friday, Zacharias followed it up with a two-goal performance on Saturday. 

"I felt good going in today knowing that it is possible, [Anderson] was standing on her head all weekend," Zacharias said. "We knew that just based on the shootout goal, if you make her bite and go around that was kind of the game plan."

The first period was largely dominated by the Bisons, outshooting the Pronghorns 11-2, but it was the Pronghorns who drew first blood. On the Pronghorns' second shot of the period, Tricia Van Vaerenbergh got on the end of a lead pass, and went far side over Bison goaltender Rachel Dyck.

Manitoba leveled the contest seven minutes into the second with Zacharias' first of the night. Zacharias took a hard pass from Alanna Sharman in the corner and tapped it over Anderson's shoulder. Anderson played admirably in the loss, stopping 30 pucks.

Zacharias thought she had her second of the night a few minutes later with a gaping net, but the referee deemed the net came off before the puck crossed the line. 

Sharman and Zacharias connected again to give the Bisons the lead late in the third. Zacharias was left alone in the slot, and buried it for her conference best seventh goal of the season. 

"I thought we stuck with it again today, we found a way to get a couple past [Anderson]," said Bison head coach Jon Rempel. "I thought we stuck to the game plan and we didn't waver too much so I thought for a quick turnaround it was pretty good."

The Bisons go out on the road to face the Calgary Dinos on Nov. 24-25 while Mount Royal at Saskatchewan on the same weekend.
