REGINA - Rachel Paul's powerplay marker in the third period stood up as the winner as the University of Regina women's hockey team fell 1-0 to the Calgary Dinos at The Co-operators Centre on Friday night.

Kelsey Roberts was spectacular in net for Calgary, stopping all 35 Cougar shots for the shutout as the Dinos improve to 3-6-0-2. Regina drops to 4-5-1-1 with the result, as Jane Kish made 17 saves.

The deciding goal came at the 7:14 mark of the third period, as Laine Grace sent a point shot in the direction of Kish. Sage Desjardins deflected the shot forcing Kish to adjust to make the save, but Paul was in perfect position to pounce on the rebound and put it home.

The Cougars had a number of high quality chances but failed to beat Roberts, with the best one coming late in the third as Bailey Braden was sprung on a breakaway off a long pass. Braden deked and went to her backhand, needing only to flip the puck over the pad of Roberts, but it took a funny bounce and she was unable to get a shot on goal.

Jordan Kulbida (pictured) had a glorious opportunity in the second period, scooping up a loose puck and turning to fire but Calgary's Kate Lumley was able to poke the puck away before the rookie could put it in the empty net.

The Cougars pulled Kish in the final minutes and had a 6-on-4 opportunity after Delaney Frey was whistled for bodychecking. Roberts and the Dino defence stood up to the challenge, with Regina's best chance coming on a loose puck that trickled to Kylee Kupper in the slot but she failed to get a good shot off.

The Cougars and Dinos will square off again on Saturday afternoon, with puck drop set for 3 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
