Pandas repeat as CIS women's ice queens

OTTAWA – Taryn Barry scored the game winning goal 40-seconds into the match as the University of Alberta Pandas successfully defended their CIS crown by blanking the McGill Martlets 4-0 Monday night to capture the 2007 smart Canada CIS women’s hockey championship in front of a capacity crowd of 750 at the University of Ottawa Sports Complex.
Leah Copeland, Jenna Barber and Lindsie Fairfield scored the other markers for the Pandas who captured their sixth title in the past eight years.

Holly Tarleton made 19 saves for her second shutout of the tournament, while McGill netminder Charline Labonté turned aside 13 shots in the loss.
The Martlets were the top ranked team in Canada all season long but were unable to win when it counted against the perennial powerhouse Pandas.
“We have a tradition of recruiting and developing an outstanding group of leaders on this team and their commitment to continually improving their abilities is why we are national champions,” said Alberta coach Howie Draper.
Lindsay McAlpine was named the tournament MVP for her two goals and three assist output over the weekend. “It is an emotional night for me knowing that I was playing my final game as a Panda but I can’t think of a better way to go out than on top,” said the CIS Player of the Year.
