SASKATOON – An explosive first quarter that saw the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team score 24 points in the first six minutes allowed the hosts to pull away from the Lethbridge Pronghorns for a final score of 93-59 inside the PAC on January 4.
 
The Huskies offence was nearly unstoppable on the night, finishing the game scoring on over half of their shot attempts. The Pronghorns had spurts of offence throughout the game but in the end weren't able to match Saskatchewan's efficiency with a final shooting percentage of 34.5.
 
The other major advantage for the home team in the game was on the boards. Saskatchewan, who leads the conference in rebounding margin, once again hit the glass hard to the tune of 43 rebounds to Lethbridge's 21.
 
With the win the Huskies maintain their lead in the conference standings and have now won their last seven games in a row to make their record 11-2. Lethbridge meanwhile, dips just below the .500 mark for a record of 5-6 where they sit in a tie for tenth.
 
Sabine Dukate led all scorers with 21 points in just 23 minutes on the floor, thanks in large part to going five-for-nine from beyond-the-arc. Summer Masikewich had another solid night in the post with 14 points and five rebounds, while Libby Epoch spread the ball around the floor, finishing with 12 points, six assists and five rebounds.
 
Kacie Bosch was lights out for the Pronghorns, going for 19 points on an efficient 11 attempts. Danielle Fritzke wasn't far behind with 17 points and five rebounds as the two veterans combined for well over half of the visitors points.
 
Saskatchewan set the tone for the game right from the very beginning, running the floor and hitting their shots almost at will. Kelsey Lalor played provider in the frame, dishing out five assists while Dukate poured in ten points and Brianna Fehrseven.
 
The Pronghorns weren't willing to go away without a fight however and hit 50 per cent of their own shots to record 21 points. All five starters scored at least four points for the Pronghorns but it was Saskatchewan that jumped out to the 13-point lead.
 
 Saskatchewan was able to widen that gap in the second quarter and the biggest difference between the teams was on the boards. The Huskies grabbed 14, including five offensive rebounds and made Lethbridge pay with their second chance opportunities to lead 58-32 at the half.
 
Both defensives clamped down in the second half and while Lethbridge went on some mini runs in an attempt to work their way back into the game, the damage was already done by that point as the Huskies were able to cruise to the 34-point victory.
 
These two teams will be back in action tomorrow night on Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court to finish off their weekend set with a game scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
