SASKATOON – For the second night in a row the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team proved to be too much for the visiting Brandon Bobcats to handle as they strolled to a 94-39 victory on Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court on November 24.
 
Four different players hit double-digits in points for a Huskies team that was led by 21 from fourth-year guard Sabine Dukate who went three-for-six from beyond the arc.
 
Also piling up the points were Summer Masikewich who finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds, as well as Katriana Philipenko who went for 15 points and six steals.
 
Kyle Weckend went two-for-four from three-point land en route to nine points to lead the Bobcats while Hailey Maas scored eight to go with seven from both Logan Biccum and Adrianna Proulx.
 
The Huskies combination of stifling defence and offensive prowess was once again the story on the night, as they recorded a positive margin of 34 rebounds, seven steals and out-shot the Bobcats 48.1% to 25.9 %.
 
With the win, Saskatchewan moves to 8-2 on the season thanks to their current four-game winning streak while Brandon drops to 2-6 on the year.
 
A relatively slow start for both teams and a three-pointer from Weckend gave the Bobcats their first lead of the weekend at 3-2 just three minutes into the game, but Saskatchewan stormed back to go on 19-5 run on the strength of 10 points from Dukate, eventually finishing up 27-10 after ten minutes played.
 
The Huskies defence was absolutely smothering in the second quarter, forcing Brandon to miss 15 of their 16 shot attempts in the frame and limiting the visitors to just two points. Saskatchewan also grabbed seven offensive rebounds and finished their second chance opportunities to increase their lead. Eight points and five steals from Philipenko in the second alone had the Huskies up 48-12 at the half.
 
That long Huskies run would continue into the beginning of the third quarter before Maas scored two minutes into the third to end it at 26-2, spred out over the end of the second and beginning of the third. That bucket gave the Bobcats some confidence and they played their best basketball of the weekend to make the third quarter score 22-15 in favour of Saskatchewan. Maas had six in the frame but the Huskies countered with 7 from Masikewich to hold a 70-27 lead heading into the fourth.
 
Saskatchewan got back to their dominant ways right at the beginning of the fourth and scored the first ten points in the frame en route to recording the 55-point victory.
 
The game also served as the annual Shoot for the Cure night, an initiative across U SPORTS that began 12 years ago to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) - and other related local and provincial charities. The Shoot for the Cure campaign has proven an overwhelming success since it was launched in the fall of 2007, with over $1.25 million in donations to date.

Saskatchewan remains at home for their next action when they UNBC Timberwolves on Nov. 29 & 30. Brandon meanwhile, will split a series with the Winnipeg Wesmen, playing at home on Nov. 30 before going on the road on Dec. 1.
