PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -

A thrilling fourth quarter comeback moved the Timberwolves to 5-0 on the season, as they prevailed 78-77 over the Trinity Western Spartans, Friday, November 16th at the Charles Jago Northern Sports Centre.

Two unbeaten Canada West opponents took to the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre on Friday night. In a battle of the unbeaten, it was the Trinity Western Spartans who came flying out of the gates. In the opening minutes of the quarter, Trinity established an 11-point lead, led by Sarah Buckingham, who started perfect from the field, shooting 4-4 for nine points in the opening frame.

A strong second quarter from Maria Mongomo, and Madison Landry helped the Timberwolves slowly chip away at the deficit. The pair combined for 15 points in the quarter, but the Spartans efficient scoring prevailed them to a 40-34

The Timberwolves came out hot to begin the fourth quarter, as they started on an 11-2 run, capped off by an Abby Gibb three to give the Timberwolves it's first lead of the game with just seven minutes remaining. The Timberwolves comeback began to kick-start the Spartans, as the two teams began to trade baskets. With just 1:30 left on the clock, Abby Gibb hit a massive three to give the Timberwolves a 76-74 lead heading in to the final minute. After a big bucket from Alina Shakirova, the Timberwolves were able to close the game out, withstanding a last-second buzzer beater, as the Spartans Jessie Brown's shot rattled off the rim.

"We really wanted to win, and we brought it together in the second half as a cohesive unit and got the job done" said Timberwolves player of the game, Madison Landry.

Madison Landry led all scorers with 25 points from an outstanding 11-11 from the field, while fellow veteran, Vasiliki Louka, added 14 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists.

"It's tough playing on four fouls because you always want to go that extra mile, but you have to be smart and know when to go for those extra plays," said Madison Landry.

Sarah Buckingham shined for the Spartans, as she went for 23 points, and six assists. Her teammate, Nicole Fransson added 21 points of her own, to go along with nine rebounds.

"We had some younger players play tonight, and they came out huge for us. But at the end of the day, they have some real all-stars on their team, and they're 5-0 for a reason" said Spartans head coach, Cheryl Jean-Paul.

The victory pushes the Timberwolves to 5-0 on the season, and they will look to extend their unbeaten record tomorrow night as the two teams face off for another exciting game of Canada West basketball.

"It's not all about one game, it's a two-game series and hopefully we can take advantage of that tomorrow night," said Spartans head coach, Cheryl Jean-Paul.
