BRANDON – A hot start was just the beginning as the Regina Cougars beat the host Brandon Bobcats on the boards and the scoreboard for a 103-55 win Friday night.

The Cougars jumped to a 15-0 lead in the first four and a half minutes before out-rebounding the Bobcats 60 to 21 en route to the victory.

Five Cougars finished in double-figures, led by Kyanna Giles game-high 21 points.

"We came in motivated. Last weekend wasn't who we are and we wanted to come into Brandon and make an impact and show who the Cougars are," says second-year forward Macaela Crone.

"Coming right off the tip we were very strong and we played as a team right off the bat, then rebuilding after we went down in the second quarter a little bit. We just got back up and we were on each other's backs a bit," Crone added.

Crone was one of two Cougars to put up a double-double, registering 14 points and 10 rebounds while Angela Bongomin had 11 points and 11 boards. Carolina Goncalves contributed 16 points and Faith Reid had 14 points, both coming off the bench.

The Bobcats were led by Adrianna Proulx's 21 points, while Kylie Weckend had 10 points.

Regina moves up in the standings to 3-2 while Brandon sits at 2-3.

The two teams meet again Saturday afternoon at the Brandon University Healthy Living Centre with tip-off coming at 5 pm.
