CALGARY – After scoring a mere three points in the first quarter, the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team bounced back to pull out a 67-53 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Seniors' Night at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Saturday's game was all Dinos following their struggles in the first quarter, as they collected over 20 points in the final three frames. Calgary was also able to capitalize from beyond the three-point line, as they went 9-for-29 on the night, compared to the 3-for-22 performance by Lethbridge.

The Dinos have now won five consecutive games and sit comfortably in a playoff spot clinched and a 13-5 record. The Pronghorns fall to 10-8 on the season and will have to wait till next weekend to have their post-season fate decided.

After the first quarter, the score was an underwhelming 8-3 in favour of the Pronghorns as the Dinos went 1-for-16 from the field.

"Our passing game was sloppy and we just were not able to produce points," said Calgary head coach Damian Jennings when asked about his team's start.

Calgary brushed themselves off in the second quarter coming back from a 15-5 Lethbridge lead to take a 25-22 lead going into the half on the back of a couple big three-pointers from Katie Upham.

Calgary was dominant in the second half of the game, scoring 20 points in the third and adding another 22 in the fourth to pull away. In addition to shooting just under 50 percent from the field, they also were strong in the rebound department, picking up 19 boards.

Shannon Hatch paved the way for the Dinos in scoring with 14 points. Hatch was also a threat on the offensive rebounds, picking up five. Laura Grabe and Brianna Ghali also attributed to the scoring, providing 12 and 10 points respectively.

Danielle Fritzke dropped 15 points with three baskets coming from beyond the arc to lead the Pronghorns.

The post-game celebrations were all about the seniors in their last year of eligibility for Calgary. Brianna Ghali, Hilary Annich, Brie Wilcox, and Shannon Hatch were all honoured for their dedication and achievements during their careers as Dinos.

The Dinos will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 1 for Pack the Jack and the final home game of the season against their inner city rivals, the Mount Royal Cougars.

Lethbridge will close out their season at home against the Alberta Pandas with games next Friday and Saturday.
