CALGARY – Scoring at least 20 points in all four quarters, the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team powered their way to a 92-40 victory against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Shoot for the Cure night at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Saturday's matchup was completely dominated by the Dinos in every category, including 23 points on 21 turnovers by UBCO. Three-point shooting was also in the Dinos' favour as they went 20.8% from beyond the arc.

Leading 24-15 after the first quarter the Dinos had no intention of looking back, while for the Heat, their Canada West low points per game average proved to be an issue yet again. UBCO was only able to put home a combined 13 points between the second and third quarters, allowing Calgary to pad their lead.

"They did a wonderful job, just trying to come out and punch first," said Dinos head coach Damian Jennings, "Besides a bit of a wobbly start, the game was in our control."

With the win, Calgary now holds an 11-5 record, while the Heat remain winless in Canada West play at 0-16.

The Heat were able to keep themselves in the game in the first half. Despite never leading they kept the score within three points throughout the opening 10 minutes while riding the hot hand of their star player Emma Johnson.

The Heat turnovers began to play a factor in the late stages of the first half, losing the ball six times while only putting up seven points in the second quarter.

Calgary took advantage of the Heat's inability to score and buried 20 points for themselves en route to a 44-22 lead going into the halftime break.

The tempo of the game didn't change coming out of the half as the Dinos won the third quarter, outscoring their opponent 26-6. With the lead 70-28 heading into the fourth, Calgary was able to put the game on cruise control to wrap up the sweep.

Brianna Ghali led the Dinos in scoring with 16 points. Jenna Spruyt added an additional 14 points, while also grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds.

Johnson yet again led the scoring for the Heat dropping 13 points while going five-for-nine from the field.

After sweeping the homestand with the Heat, the Dinos will be back in action on Thursday in Lethbridge against the Pronghorns for the start of a home-and-home series. Calgary will celebrate their Senior Night on the backend of that series on Saturday, January 27.

The Heat return home next weekend as the UBC Thunderbirds visit for games on January 26 and 27.
