CALGARY – After two games on the road, the University of Calgary Dinos were back home at the Jack Simpson Gym on Friday night where they defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat 66-43.

Starting the game out with a 16-0 run, the Dinos had no intentions of letting the Heat back into the game from the first quarter on, ending the first with an 18-6 lead.

The second quarter was much of the same story, with the Dinos putting the Heat deeper into a hole while capitalizing on their lack of offence, gaining a lead as big as 20 towards the end of the second quarter.

The second half started off strong for the Heat, cutting the game to 38-26 just three minutes into the fresh half. The Dinos would then again take control of the game and extend the lead to 18 going into the fourth with a couple of big shots from Brianna Ghali.

In an uneventful fourth quarter, seeing only 21 combined points, the Dinos managed to stave off the winless Heat for their 10th win of the season.

"We need to correct some things going deeper into the season and towards playoffs," Dinos head coach Damian Jennings said, pointing out a lacklustre performance by his squad.

Ghali yet again led the Dinos in scoring with 18 while Erin McIntosh and Bobbi Jo Colburn ended the night with nine points. Jenna Spruyt, despite not getting any points on the night was strong on the board grabbing eight rebounds.

Emma Johnson led the Heat in scoring, putting up 12.

The second game of the weekend set between the Dinos and Heat goes Saturday back at the Jack Simpson Gym with tip-off set for 5 p.m. MT.
