WINNIPEG – The University of Victoria Vikes stretch their win-streak to six after beating the University of Manitoba Bisons 90-78 in women's basketball on Sunday afternoon at Investors Group Athletic Centre. 

"We're very similar teams and play very similar styles," said Bisons Head Coach Michele Sung. "We wanted to try and slow them down offensively. I thought we could have executed better against a such a good team." 

The Bisons kept the score close but trailed for the entirety of game.

"Manitoba has been playing really well," said Vikes Head Coach Dani Sinclair. "We were never out of the woods over the entire weekend." 

The Vikes narrowly beat the Bisons on Saturday afternoon's game, topping the hosts just 71-68. That victory snapped the Herd's five-game win-streak. The Bisons' record now falls to 8-8, while the Vikes' record improves to 10-4. 

Shooting was solid on both ends of the court, with each team shooting over 40 per cent. Defensively, it seemed as though everyone on the floor was ready to steal with 12 total steals between the two games.  

The Vikes offensive effort was led by fourth-year guard Amira Giannattasio. She put up 22 points for the visitors. Kristy Gallagher, Katie Langdon and Ashlyn Day also scored in the double-digits with Langdon posting a double-double. Langdon, a third-year forward, had 15 points and 10 rebounds. 

On the Bisons side, Taylor Randall led the charge once again. She contributed 22 points to the effort, while her teammate and fourth-year forward Claire Harvey had a double-double. Harvey earned Player of the Game honours with her 11 points and 12 rebounds.  

The Bisons stay in Winnipeg next weekend, playing one game at the University of Winnipeg Wesmen's Duckworth Centre, and one game on their home-court. They host first on Friday at 6 p.m. CT at the Investor's Group Athletic Centre. 

The Vikes also stay at home to take on the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves on Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
