WBB: Regina completes weekend sweep with Saturday win over MRU

REGINA – The University of Regina's women's basketball team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday night with a 93-41 victory over Mount Royal at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

While the first and third quarters were close – the Cougars only outscored Mount Royal by a combined 39-34 margin in those 20 minutes – the rest of the game was all U of R. Regina scored 22 points to MRU's three in the second quarter to take a 41-16 lead into halftime, and the No. 3-ranked Cougars put an exclamation mark on the win by outscoring the visitors 32-4 in the fourth.

Regina keeps pace with Saskatchewan with the win, as both teams now sit at 11-1 atop the Canada West standings.

Six different U of R players hit double figures in the win, led by Kyanna Giles who piled up 20 points, a career-high 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Other players in double figures in points included Christina McCusker (14), Kyia Giles (13), Charlotte Kot (12), Sara Hubenig (11), and Carolina Goncalves (10). Goncalves also added a game-high seven assists in the win.

Mount Royal (0-12) was led by Maria Blanco's 16-point effort, 15 of which came in the third quarter alone.

Both Cougar teams will continue the Canada West schedule next weekend with two games in Edmonton. Mount Royal will square off with MacEwan, while Regina will battle Alberta.
