WBB: Regina's Kot hits 1000 points in record win over MRU

REGINA, Sask. – Ranked No. 3 in the nation, the University of Regina's women's basketball team returned from a long layoff and hit the century mark in a big 101-31 win over Mount Royal on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Charlotte Kot (pictured) became the 12th player in program history to hit the 1000 mark in career points, scoring 18 for the Cougars while also pulling down seven rebounds in just 19 minutes on the floor.

Kyanna Giles notched her third double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds while also collecting a game-high five assists. Three other Cougars hit double figures in points, including Carolina Goncalves with 13 and both Kyia Giles and Lauryn Prokop with 10. Christina McCusker, Faith Reid, and Caitlin Zacharias all finished with eight points.

Becky Nash had nine points for Mount Royal, which falls to 0-11 on the season.

The win was the U of R's first 70-point win in program history. The team's previous record for margin of victory was 69, set in a 106-37 win over Brandon back during the 2010-11 season.

The Cougars, who improve to 10-1 this year as they remain one of just two one-loss teams in the conference, have now won five consecutive games. They'll attempt to go for the weekend sweep on Saturday night at the CKHS with tip-off again set for 6 p.m.

NOTES: Regina enjoyed a 66-33 rebounding advantage over Mount Royal in the win ... the hometown Cougars also outscored MRU 42-4 off turnovers and had 26 second-chance points to Mount Royal's two.
