WBB: Wesmen sweep T-Birds with 71 - 52 win

WINNIPEG - The Wesmen Women's Basketball team finished off the weekend beating the UBC Thunderbirds 52 - 71 to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday night.

The Wesmen came to play from the starting whistle battling with the T-birds in the first quarter. 3rd-year Faith Hezekiah led all scores with 7 points to lead the Wesmen to a 1 point lead 16 - 15.

The second and third quarters were dominated on both sides of the ball by the Wesmen. Outscoring UBC 43 - 23 in the two quarters the Wesmen had cruised to a 59 - 38 lead.

Going into the fourth quarter with a 21 point lead, the Wesmen took their foot off the gas. In the end, the Wesmen finished the game with a 71 - 52 victory.

Leading all players in the game was Faith Hezekiah with a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabing18 rebounds. Canada West leading scorer Antoinette Miller finished second in scoring with 20 points and 6 rebounds.

UBC top scorer was Keylyn Filewich with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Maddison Penn had the double-double scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Wesmen remain at home next weekend and take on MacEwan on Friday and Saturday nights at the Duckworth Centre. Tip off on Friday night is at 6:00pm CST.

UBC is also home next week to take on the Regina Cougars.
