WINNIPEG – Thanks to an electrified second half, the University of Manitoba Bisons topped the Brandon University Bobcats 90-74 in women's basketball at Investors Group Athletic Centre on Saturday (Nov. 25).

"When we play well, it surprises everyone else but me," said Bisons head coach Michele Sung. "We're finally starting to play to our potential."

After trailing for most of a tight first half, the Herd came into the second half as a refreshed team. They outscored the Bobcats 33-18 in the third quarter. The Herd was down by four points at half, and led by 15 with two minutes to go in the third.

The Bisons' 90 points scored in the game is their second highest so-far this season. The highest being 91 against Mount Royal last Friday (Nov. 17).

The Bisons improve their record to 4-6, while the Bobcats fall to 2-6. The Bobcats beat the Bisons 84-77 in a tight back-and-forth game on Friday (Nov. 24). That loss to the Bobcats is the Bisons only loss in their last five games.

"Learning how to win takes time," said Sung. "We're learning to click."

The Herd got into the rhythm of shooting three-pointers. Guard Taylor Randall led the charge for the hosts, putting up a total 25 points. Fifteen of Randall's points came from outside the perimeter.

Bisons guard Emma Thompson also caught the three-point fever. She put up 21 points from outside for a total 23. As a team, the Bisons shot the three at 41.4 per cent and 44.3 per cent overall.

For the Bobcats, forward Lauren Anderson knocked down 18 points and guard Hailey Maas added another 14 for the visitors.

Both teams play again next Friday (Dec. 1). Manitoba heads to UBC Okanagan, while Brandon goes to Trinity Western. Both games start at 5:00 p.m. CT.
