CALGARY – For the second-straight game, the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team shutdown the high flying offence of the Winnipeg Wesmen, pulling away with a 72-41 win on Sunday afternoon at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Calgary was able to carry momentum from Saturday night's game into Sunday, scoring early and often against the Wesmen, while limiting their star players' opportunities.

The Dinos offence was spread out across their lineup with all but one player registering at least a point. Bobbi Jo Colburn and Brianna Ghali each had 16 points, while Shannon Hatch and Anmol Mattu finished with 11 and eight points respectively.

Hatch led Calgary with seven rebounds, including four on offence.

"We played really well today," commented Colburn, who tied a school record on Saturday with eight three pointers. "I knew they were going to play me for the shot, so I knew I would have open lanes and lanes for other people. I wouldn't be able to score as much, but I am really happy with everyone's game."

Faith Hezekiah was Winnipeg's top scorer for the second night in a row. She also led her team with 12 rebounds.

"Everyone was on the ball at all times, all five [players on the court] responded," said Colburn when asked about her team's approach on defence.

The Dinos sweep the weekend and improve their record to 5-1. Calgary will finish the calendar year on the road, not playing another home game until January 4.

Winnipeg loses their fourth straight game, falling to 2-4 on the season.

Making amends for a slow start on Saturday, the Dinos controlled the first half of Sunday's game. Calgary outscored Winnipeg 23-7 in the opening quarter and added to their lead with a solid second quarter, giving them a 40-19 lead at the half.

A relentless effort on defence by the Dinos and some sloppy turnovers by the Wesmen played a big role in Calgary's early advantage. The home team had 12 steals in the opening half and eventually finished the game with 19.

Following a tight third quarter, the Dinos closed things out with another impressive defensive performance in the fourth. The Wesmen were held to just eight points, while the Dinos collected 17 to wrap up the weekend.

Calgary begins a four-game road swing next weekend as they visit the Brandon Bobcats, Nov. 17-18.

The Wesmen travel further west next weekend as they take on the Fraser Valley Cascades.
