WINNIPEG – Claire Harvey led the University of Manitoba Bisons to their first win of the season against the MacEwan University Griffins in women's basketball at Investors Group Athletic Centre on Saturday (Nov. 11) by a score of 63-54.

"Our coach gave a really good pre-game speech," said Harvey. "We decided we're either going to win together or lose together."

The Bisons held a steady lead throughout the game as Harvey, a fourth-year forward, pushed the offense – posting 14 points and five steals.

"I've been working towards a game like this for a number of years," said Harvey. "It feels amazing."

Taylor Randall and team captain Montana Kinzel also helped lead the charge for the Herd. Randall added 10 points, while Kinzel posted another 12.

Griffins guards Kayla Ivicak and Paige Knull led the visitor's scoring. Five-foot-eight Ivicak had a double-double, putting up 17 points and 14 rebounds. Knull, also five-foot-eight, added another 21.

Bisons forward Addison Martin limped off the court after going down awkwardly during a rebound, but remained on the bench for the rest of the game.

The Herd started their season with five straight losses, including a 70-56 loss to the Griffins on Friday (Nov. 10). Friday's game was the Griffin's first win of the season. The two teams now have matching 1-5 records.

The Griffins have a bye next weekend (Nov.17/18), while the Bisons play next Friday (Nov. 17) against the Mount Royal University Cougars in Calgary at 7 p.m. CT.
