CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars lost 80-72 to the Brandon Bobcats in double overtime on Sunday at Kenyon Court.
The loss drops Mount Royal to a record of 1-7, while Brandon improves to 2-6.
Cassie Cook of Brandon led all scorers with 39 points and teammate Stephanie Haynes added 12. Jordan MacLean and Danica Rybachuk scored 24 and 16 points for the Cougars. Cooke's total is ties for the sixth-best game in Canada West history going back to 1972.
Neither team could get the offence going in the first overtime period as they each only scored five points and a second period was needed. Brandon distanced themselves opening with 7-2 run to begin the frame. The Cougar's inability to score hurt them in the end and Brandon won the game 80-72.
Brandon will remain in Calgary for the week before playing the Calgary Dinos on Thursday and Friday.
The Cougars are on their way to Kamloops next weekend for two against two matchups against Thompson Rivers. Tip-off for the first game will be at 6:00pm on Friday November, 29th.

SASKATOON - The CIS #5 Saskatchewan Huskies shot 55% from the field to defeat the #3 Fraser Valley Cascades 77-57 on Saturday at the PAC.
With the win Saskatchewan improves to 7-1 in the regular season and remains in first place in the Prairie division. The Cascades drop to 6-2 with their second straight loss. Both teams came into the contest leading their respective divisions in the Canada West.
Kabree Howard scored a game-high 18 points for the Huskies and added five assists. Howard was 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Taya Keujer scored an efficient 11 points in 13 minutes of action, while Dalyce Emmerson and Kiera Lyons added 10 points each.
Nataliia Gavryliuk was the top scorer for the Cascades with 12 points. Sarah Wierks grabbed a team-high six rebounds to go along with six points and a block.
Saskatchewan will host the Manitoba Bisons at the PAC next weekend, while UFV returns home to face the UBC Thunderbirds.

Cougars-Timberwolves Stats

PRINCE GOERGE, BC - Foul heavy Timberwolves were unable to keep up with the No.6 Regina Cougars on Saturday at the Northern Sport Centre.
The Cougars defeated the Timberwolves 93-68, bringing the Cougars to 6-2 and dropping the Timberwolves to 3-5.
The Cougars were almost automatic from the foul line, scoring leader Jennilea Coppola went 6/8 from the charity strip while recording a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Adding an outside presence Katie Polischuk forced the Timberwolves to cover the deep shot, draining five from behind the arc. Polischuk added an additional 19 points to the Cougars tally.
Fifth-year veterans Jen Bruce and Emily Kaehn led the Timberwolves with 19 and 17, respectively.
The Timberwolves will travel to Kelowna, BC next weekend for a double-header with the UBC Okanagan Heat. The Cougars will travel to Lethbridge, AB for a double-header with the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

VICTORIA – The Victoria Vikes found their scoring touch in the second half to grab a 66-51 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen onSaturday at Ken and Kathy Shields Court in Victoria.
Fourth-year Vike Jessica Renfrew had three of her four three-pointers in the final frame to help Victoria improve to a 5-3 record while the visiting Wesmen fall 4-4.
Renfrew led the Vikes squad with 20 points, two blocks and one steal, while second year Jenna Bugiardini was consistent all game to chip in with 16 points and seven boards.
The Wesmen gained as much as a five point lead in the opening quarter to edge the Vikes 13-10 in the early get-going. Contributions from the entire roster including 11 points from the bench and nine from Ruddock fueled Winnipeg.
Up next the Vikes the Vikes will travel to face the Trinity Western Spartans for a pair of games, Nov. 29-30, while Winnipeg will visit Alberta to close out the 2013 portion of the season.

Bisons-Thunderbirds Stats

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds moved into a first-place tie atop the Pacific Division after defeated the Manitoba Bisons 62-45 on Saturday to improve to 6-2. With the win, UBC completed a weekend sweep of visiting teams from Manitoba.
Harleen Sidhu led the Thunderbirds in points (21) and rebounds (nine), just missing out on her fifth double-double of the season.
UBC's next games will determine which team will head into the winter break in first place in the Pacific Division. The Thunderbirds will travel to Abbotsford to take on the Fraser Valley Cascades next weekend in their last two games of the calendar year.
Manitoba (3-5) will travel to Saskatoon for a two-game series against Saskatchewan next weekend.

Heat-Dinos Stats

CALGARY - The Calgary Dinos won their sixth consecutive game of the season when they handily defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat 72-52 on Saturday at Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
The Dinos improve to 6-2 to remain tied for second place in the Prairie Division with Alberta after the weekend, while the Heat drop to 1-7.
For the second night in a row, Kristie Sheils led the way for Calgary with 13 points. Jessica Thielen also scored 13 points for the Dinos and grabbed seven rebounds. Rookie Brianna Ghali added ten points and six rebounds in the win.
The Heat were unable to get into double digits, but both Krystal Schouten and Claire Elliott scored nine points. Emily Kanester picked up a game-high eight rebounds.
The Dinos will host the Brandon Bobcats in their first games of the regular season before the Christmas break on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday Nov. 29. Tip-off for both games is set for 6 p.m.
UBC Okanagan will also host their final games of the regular season when they face the UNBC Timberwolves, Nov. 29-30.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – After trailing for majority of the game, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat with a second half rally, defeating the Lethbridge Pronghorns 66-64 on Saturday.
Former Pronghorn Kassie Colona led the WolfPack in victory with 15 points, while Taisya Worsfeld and Sarah Malate each chipped in with 14 points, as the WolfPack had five players reach double digits.
For the Pronghorns, in only her second conference game of the season, Ali Cameron led all scorers with 23 points and Kim Veldman continued her strong play in the post, adding 21 points and 12 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double.
The ‘Horns will remain at home next weekend in the final action before the semester break, hosting the University of Regina. Thompson Rivers will return home to host the Mount Royal Cougars for a pair of games.

Bobcats-Timberwolves Stats

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - For the first time in three years the Brandon Bobcats women's basketball team has entered the winning column. The Bobcats add their first win of the season moving to 1-6 after a 76-69 win over the UNBC Timberwolves. The Timberwolves fall to 3-4.
Their last win was in February 2010.
Four players hit double figures in as the Bobcats put an end to their losing streak.Third year guard Kaela Cranston was on fire for the Bobcats. Cranston drained five threes and finished with 20 points. Cassie Cooke turned it on late in the game scoring 17 second half points for a total of 19 during the game.
For the Timberwolves rookie Mavia Nijjer was integral in the Timberwolves comeback in the fourth quarter. Nijjer was six for 10 from behind the arc, totalling 20 points. Fifth year guard Jen Bruce added 17 to the Timberwolves total.
The Bobcats will travel to Calgary on Saturday to take on the Mount Royal Cougars, tipoff is set for 1 p.m. MST. The Timberwolves will host the No.6-ranked Regina Cougars at the Northern Sport Centre at 6 p.m PST. Both games can be viewed live at canadawest.tv.

CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars lost 90-59 to the Regina Cougars tonight at Kenyon Court.
Alyssia Kajati of Regina scored a game-high 24 points with Nicole Clarke scoring 22. Jordan MacLean and Alicia Tan of the Cougars lead the way with 19 and 11 points each.
With the loss Mount Royal falls to a record of 1-6 while Regina improves to 5-2.
Regina will head out to play UNBC in Prince George tomorrow evening with the top off starting at 6:00pm. Mount Royal will play again this Sunday when they are slated to host the Brandon Bobcats at Kenyon Court. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

EDMONTON - The CIS #4 Alberta Pandas picked a great time to discover their three-point game. Up against the undefeated and #3 the Fraser Valley Cascades, the Pandas drained seven long balls en route to a decisive 73-61 win, Friday night at the Saville Community Sports Centre.
Renee Byrne racked up a game high 17 points. The third-year shooting guard connected on 4-of-8 three pointers, and also found some time to dish out four assists. Andria Carlyon was dialed in as well, earning nine points, a game-high 11 boards and game high five steals.
Third-year forward Kayli Sartori led the UFV attack with 14 points, while Shayna Litman came off the bench to give the visitors 13 points. Nicole Wierks and Litman led the team in rebounds, with six each, and Sartori added a team high four assists.
Although the Cascades slip to 6-1, they retain first place in the Pacific Division. They'll wrap up their weekend on Saturday night in Saskatoon when they tangle with the 6-1 Huskies.
The Pandas return to action next weekend when they close out the first term with a home series against the 4-3 Winnipeg Wesmen.

SASKATOON - The CIS #5 Saskatchewan Huskies led from start to finish on Friday night to defeat the Trinity Western Spartans 81-57 at the PAC.
With the win Saskatchewan improves to 6-1, while Trinity Western drops to 1-7 with the loss.
Dalyce Emmerson scored a game-high 22 points for the Huskies on 8-of-9 shooting highlighted by a 6-for-6 start to the game. Guard Kabree Howard added another 13 points and had two steals for Saskatchewan, while Antoinette Miller collected eight rebounds.
Janelle Traber scored 15 points to lead the Spartans offensively. Kayla Gordon and Holly Strom added 10 points each. Gordon also grabbed a team-high four rebounds.
Trinity Western returns home next weekend to take on the Victoria Vikes. The Huskies remain in Saskatoon to face the Fraser Valley Cascades Saturday night.

Sheils' performance led the Dinos followed by 15 points and six steals from Tamara Jarrett and another 12 points from Ashley Hirons. Rookie Brianna Ghali had a game-high eight rebounds along with eight points for Calgary.
For the WolfPack, point guard Jorri Duxbury led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds. Forward Kassie Colonna took control at the post for Thompson Rivers with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Dinos will host another Pacific team in the UBC Okanagan Heat, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Jack, while Thompson Rivers will head south the Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.

VICTORIA – The Victoria Vikes team needed some leadership from the fourth-year duo of Jessica Renfrew and Cassandra Goodis to get their first win at McKinnon Gymnasium. The Vikes downed the Manitoba Bisons 59-43 to improve their Canada West record to 4-3, while the Bisons drop 3-4.
Renfrew led the Vikes with 13 points and four rebounds, while Goodis had seven assists while also putting up 11 points. Sarah Semeniuk led most of the early scoring that gave the Vikes a cushion during a slow second half. The six-foot-three post had 10 points and six rebounds as the Vikes went 37 per cent from the field and 64 per cent from the line.
For the visitors, Sheree Carmona-Galdamez led in every category with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists. The fourth-year guard logged 33 minutes in the match with the next highest scorers being Vanessa DeVries with six points and three others with four points. The Bisons struggled from the field going 29 per cent on the night and were only 46 per cent accurate in free throws.
The win marks the Vikes women's first victory on home court and improves their Pacific Division record to 4-3, while their Prairie Division counterparts now fall 3-4. The Vikes will regroup to host the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday at McKinnon Gym, while the Bisons will travel to face the UBC Thunderbirds at War Memorial Gym. Both games are at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast live at canadawest.tv.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – On the heels of a three game losing streak, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team put an end to the losing streak in a big way, defeating the visiting UBC-O Heat 77-48 at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.
Canada West's third leading scorer Kim Veldman had a big night for the ‘Horns in the win, recording her fourth double-double of the season with a game high 24 points and 12 rebounds. She also entered the weekend as the conference's leading rebounder. Newcomer Mariah Miller chipped in with 17 points and Ali Cameron, playing in her first conference game of the season after being injured in the preseason, scored 12 points in her return.
For the Heat, Emily Kanester and Claire Elliot each had 12 points, while Sarah Allison record 10 in the loss.
With the win the ‘Horns improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Heat fall to 1-6.
The ‘Horns will return to the 1st Choice Savings Centreon Saturday, hosting the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. The Heat will switch places with the WolfPack and head up Highway 2 to face the Dinos tomorrow night. Tip-off is set for 5:00pm and the game will be streamed live on http://canadawest.tv.

Wesmen-Thunderbirds Stats

VANCOUVER – The duo of Kris Young and Harleen Sidhu did just enough for the UBC Thunderbirds to fend off a three-point shooting barrage from the Winnipeg Wesmen and claim an 81-75 victory on Friday.
Young recorded 27 points and nine steals, one off the school record, while Sidhu had 24 points for UBC.
Stephanie Kleysen scored 22 points for Winnipeg while Alyssa Grant chipped in with 19 and Megan Noonan added 16. The Wesmen hit 13 triples on 18 opportunities while UBC made good on 10 of its 28 shots from beyond the arc.
Winnipeg (4-3) will travel to Victoria for a matchup against the Vikes at 5 p.m.
UBC (5-2) will host Manitoba at War Memorial Gymnasium at 5 p.m.

EDMONTON - Third-year guard Renee Byrne knocked back 14 points and the CIS #4 Alberta Pandas picked up a 79-52 victory over the Trinity Western Spartans on Thursday night at the Saville Community Sports Centre.
The win is Alberta's fourth in a row as they improve to 5-2 on the season. They remain tied for first in the Prairie Division along with the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Pandas will wrap up their weekend tomorrow when they take on the undefeated Fraser Valley Cascades.
Trinity Western, meanwhile, has now dropped six straight games and continues to occupy the Pacific Division basement along with UBC Okanagan and Mount Royal. On Thursday, the Spartans were led by fifth-year forward Holly Strom, who registered a game high 15 points.
The Pandas also got 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks from Andria Carlyon.
They'll search for consecutive win number five when they take on the 6-0 Cascades on Friday at 6:00 p.m., while the Spartans will travel to Saskatoon to the tangle with the 5-1 Huskies.
