WINNIPEG - Fourth-year forward Stephanie Kleysen scored a game high 32 points to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a convincing 68-35 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Sunday.

Kleysen was on her game from the get go, scoring 24 points in the opening half. She finished the contest 11-of-16 shooting from the field and drained six-three pointers. Kleysen also grabbed 11 rebounds and was solid on the defensive side finishing with five steals.

Fifth year post Alyssa Grant added 16 points. Skylar Boulanger finished with nine rebounds.

Mariah Miller led the Pronghorns with 11 points. Erin James led the team in rebounds with eight.

Winnipeg will be on the road next weekend facing UBC on Friday and Victoria on Saturday. Lethbridge will be home against UBC Okanagan and Thompson Rivers.

REGINA – It certainly wasn't a night for offence on Saturday as the #4 Saskatchewan Huskies had a strong second half en route to a 56-43 victory over the #6 Regina Cougars at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
 
Dalyce Emmerson led the way with a big double-double for Saskatchewan as the third-year post led all players with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Jordyn Halvorson added 17 points for the No. 4-ranked Huskies, who move back into sole possession of first place in the Prairie Division with a 5-1 record.
 
Katie Polischuk led the Cougars (4-2) with eight points, all of which came in the first half.
 
Saskatchewan will now prepare for the first of what will be two consecutive home weekends for the Huskies, as they'll host Trinity Western and No. 3 Fraser Valley next Friday and Saturday.
 
The Cougars won't play again at the CKHS until Jan. 9 and in the meantime, they'll finish off the first half of the schedule with four consecutive road games starting with two next weekend against Mount Royal and UNBC.

LANGLEY, BC – After possessing a six-point lead after three quarters, Trinity Western couldn't keep up with UNBC in the fourth quarter as the Timberwolves outscored the Spartans 21-10 over the last 10 minutes to escape with a 65-60 win on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

With the game tied 59-59, the Spartans went up 60-59 after a Holly Strom (Calgary) free throw, but UNBC's Mercedes VanKoughnett dropped a jumper with 36 seconds left to give the Timberwolves a 61-60 advantage. From there, UNBC held TWU off the board and made all four of its free throws as it pulled away for the win.
 
The Spartans (1-5) possessed a lead after each quarter but, similar to Friday's game, UNBC (3-3) rallied in the fourth to complete the weekend sweep.
 
UNBC had four players in double-digits for points led by Emily Kaehn, who had 19 points. Jen Bruce and Sarah Robin each had 12 points and VanKoughnett had 10. VanKoughnett and Kaehn also each had 12 rebounds.
 
Strom, who had eight points Friday night, rebounded Saturday with a 21-point effort to go along with 13 rebounds. First-year Kayla Gordon had nine points as well as four rebounds.
 
The Spartans are back on the court next weekend when they will travel to play Alberta Nov. 21 and Saskatchewan Nov. 22. The Timberwolves will return home to host Brandon Nov. 22 and Regina Nov. 23.

ABBOTSFORD, BC - The CIS #3 Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the MRU Cougars 77-46 at the Envision Athletic Centre.  The Cascades, nationally ranked 3rd in the CIS top ten poll, now sport a 6-0 record and lead the Pacific Division of Canada West. The Cougars fall to 1-5 in the Pacific Division.

UFV was led by Shayna Litman and Kayli Sartori, with 13 points each.  Katie Brink scored 11 points and along with Sartori pulled down a team leading seven rebounds each.    

Danica Rybachuk led MRU with 11 points and Carrie Campbell added eight points and a team lading nine rebounds.    

UFV goes on the road next weekend to Edmonton, to face the Alberta Pandas and Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies.

BRANDON, MB – The Alberta Pandas completed the weekend sweep of the Brandon Bobcats, but the ‘Cats put up a fight in the 66-51 loss
 
In the end four Pandas finished in double-digit scoring, as Megan Van de Kraats and Kendra Asleson both contributed 13 points, while Jessilyn Fairbanks put up 11 points and Sally Hillier contributed 10 points.
 
Three Bobcats finished in double-digit points, led by Cassie Cooke's game-high 15 points. Kaela Cranston put up 11 points while Aleah Bridges added 10.
 
The win improves Alberta's record to 4-2, while the Bobcats remain winless at 0-6.

Up next for the Bobcats is a weekend road-trip against UNBC and Mount Royal, while Alberta will play in a weekend home-stand against Trinity Western and Fraser Valley.

KELOWNA, BC – The rematch of Friday night's high-octane game played to a decidedly different pace from UBC's Okanagan campus gymnasium Saturday evening in Kelowna, but a six-point, cold-shooting second quarter from the Heat allowed the Vikes to pull away en route to the 68-45 victory.
 
Despite 6-14 shooting, Jessica Renfrew was able to lead the Vikes in scoring for the second straight game, this time with 15 points. The Vikes attack was balanced by 12 points from Cassandra Goodis, and 11 points from both Jenny Lewis and Jenna Bugiardini.
 
As for the Heat, Emily Kanester led UBC Okanagan with 10 points, while Krystal Schouten and Claire Elliott were able to tally eight and seven points each respectively.
 
UBC Okanagan will hit the road for next weekend's series, traveling to both Lethbridge and Calgary to face the Pronghorns and Dinos, while the Vikes will travel to Manitoba to face the Bisons and Wesmen.

KAMLOOPS, BC — The UBC Thunderbirds took advantage of some solid free throw shooting in the first half and rolled to a 71-54 win over the home town Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Saturday at the Tournament Capital Centre.

TRU falls to 3-3, while the T-Birds are 4-2.

UBC's Kris Young and Adrienne Parkin each had 16 points. TRU got 20 points from Kassie Colonna. Jorri Duxbury had 12 points, eight assists and seven steals.

The WolfPack hit the road next week for games in Calgary and Lethbridge (Nov 29 and 30). UBC will host Winnipeg and Manitoba. Next home action for TRU is Friday, November 29 th when they entertain the Mount Royal Cougars.  Tip off is 6 pm at the Tournament Capital Centre.

WINNIPEG - The Calgary Dinos completed a weekend sweep over the Manitoba Bisons with a hard-fought 65-63 win on Saturday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of M campus).

Calgary (4-2) has now won four straight conference games. Tamara Jarrett led the Dinos with 14 points after missing most of the second half on Friday with an injury. Lawrie Saunders chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Jenilyn Monton and Stephen Gill led the Bisons (3-3) offensively with 11 points. Manitoba has now lost three of their last four conference games.

The Bisons hit the road next weekend with a pair of games in B.C. They will start with a game on Friday, Nov. 22 against the Victoria Vikes at 6 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, the Dinos will return to Calgary next weekend and will start their slate by hosting Thompson Rivers on Friday, Nov. 22.

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Wesmen picked up their third victory of the regular season with a convincing 66-42 decision over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a rare Saturday afternoon game in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium.

Winnipeg improves it's regular season record to 3-2. The Pronghorns fall below .500 at 2-3.

Second-year guard Megan Noonan was a spark plug for the Wesmen finishing with a team high 20 points and five rebounds. Fifth year forward Alyssa Grant and Taylor Thorkelsson each contributed 10 points.

Kim Veldman was the top scorer for Lethbridge finishing with a double-double consisting of 25 points and 17 rebounds.

Winnipeg and Lethbridge will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday, with a 1:00 p.m. scheduled tip off.

Cougars-Cascades Stats

ABBOTSFORD, BC - The Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the MRU Cougars, 79-35 on Friday at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The CIS 33 Cascades now sport a 5-0 record and lead the Pacific Division as the only undefeated team in Canada West.  The Cougars fall to 1-4 in the Pacific Division.

Shayna Litman and Sarah Wierks led UFV with 11 points each as 11 different Cascades scored at least one point in the victory.  Sarah Wierks also pulled down a team leading 13 rebounds as UFV out rebounded MRU 45 to 22 for the game.

The Cascades shot 47 percent from the floor for the game as MRU shot 18 percent.  Candice Campbell led MRU with 7 points in the loss to UFV.

The Cascades and Cougars will play again on Sautfsya at 5 p.m.

BRANDON, MB – The #5 Alberta Pandas jumped to an early lead and didn't hold back winning 65-30 over the host Brandon Bobcats.
 
The Pandas shot 34.5%, led by Jessilyn Fairbanks' team-high 11 points. Renee Byrne and Sally Hiller put up 10 points each, while Kelly Lyons pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
The Bobcats were led by Cassie Cooke's game-high 13 points.
 
With the win the Pandas improve to 3-2 on the season, while Brandon remains winless at 0-5.
 
The two teams will meet again Saturday at 5:00 pm.

REGINA – It was Shoot for the Cure night on Friday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport and #6 Regina celebrated with a 73-52 win over the #4 Saskatchewan Huskies.
 
Nicole Clarke led the way with 24 points for the Cougars, who improve to 4-1 on the season and pull into a tie with the Huskies for first place in the Prairie Division standings. Clarke was 9-for-22 from the field, hit three triples, and also had a game-high six assists.
 
Jennilea Coppola chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds for the U of R, while Charlotte Kot had seven points and led all players on the glass with 10 rebounds.
 
Dalyce Emmerson led Saskatchewan (4-1) with 22 points and nine rebounds as the third-year post fell just short of a double-double, while Antoinette Miller added six points and six rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench for the Huskies.
 
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS with a 5:00 tip-off time.

KELOWNA, BC - The visiting Victoria Vikes took away an 89-75 win off the Heat Friday night at the UBC Okanagan gymnasium.
 
Sarah Semeniuk had 14 points, seven rebounds. The biggest thorn in the Heat's side would be the backcourt duo of Jessica Renfrew and Jenna Bugiardini, who combined for 37 points and used pin-point passing on the break for easy buckets.
 
Third-year guard Emily Kanester led the charge by the Heat tonight with 19 points and 5 rebounds in 30 minutes of floor-time. Kanester was 6-9 from the field including 3-4 from the three-point line.
 
The Heat will move to 1-4 while the Vikes improve to 2-3 for the season.
 
The Heat will look for revenge on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the UBC Okanagan gymnasium.

KAMLOOPS, BC — For the first time in their history, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team has beaten the UBC Thunderbirds.  History was made on Friday at the Tournament Capital Centre as the ‘Pack downed the T-Birds 65-57 in overtime.

Both teams have 3-2 records.

Taiysa Worsfold (3rd year, forward, Kamloops, BC) led the way for TRU with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Kassie Colonna had 11 points as well for TRU. UBC was led by Kris Young, with 13 points.  Sidhu had 12 points and 14 rebounds.  Adrienne Parkin had 11 points as well for the Thunderbirds.

The two teams will play again Saturday at the TCC. Tip off is 5 pm.

WINNIPEG - It was a rough afternoon from the field for the Manitoba Bisons women's basketball team as they dropped a 67-58 decision to the Calgary Dinos on Friday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of M campus).

The Bisons (3-2) struggled inside the paint for most of the game, missing layup opportunities and finished 21-for-60 (35%) overall in the game. Sheree Carmona-Galdamez led the Bisons with 11 points in the contest.

Tamara Jarrett led Calgary (3-2) with 14 points, but left the game with an injury in the third quarter and did not return. Brianna Ghali had 13 points and four rebounds as well for the Dinos.

The two teams now hold identical 3-2 records in the Prairie Division. They meet again on Saturday at 12 p.m.

LANGLEY, BC – After a back-and-forth first three quarters, the UNBC Timberwolves outscored Trinity Western 21-14 in the final frame as they pulled away down the stretch to earn a 67-61 win on Friday at the Langley Events Centre.
 
The Spartans (1-4) led 47-46 after the third quarter, but turnovers and a hot-shooting Timberwolves side (2-3) allowed the visitors to take over in the final frame to pick up their second win of the year.
 
Mercedes VanKoughnett had 13 fourth quarter points and seven rebounds while Jen Bruce added eight points over the final 10 minutes to lead the Timberwolves to the victory. VanKoughnett finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds, six steals and seven assists while Bruce finished with 13 points and four boards.
 
The Spartans were led by Janelle Traber, who had 11 points and three steals while Laurissa Weigl had nine points, eight rebounds and four steals. The Spartans leading scorer this season, Holly Strom, was held to eight points, but did add eight rebounds.
 
The teams will play the rematch Saturday at 5 p.m. at the LEC.
