WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Wesmen went to work a lot quicker Saturday night than they did the night before and they have a 2-0 record to show for it.

The Wesmen men's volleyball team was dominant for most of the first two sets, overcame an 8-2 third-set deficit and rallied to beat the UBC-Okanagan Heat 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-20) in a Canada West conference match Saturday at the Duckworth Centre.

Adrian Dyck led the Wesmen with 10 kills, while Daniel Thiessen hit .533 for the night, notching nine kills and just one error on 15 swings. Ethan Duncan added eight kills, plus three aces, and libero Darian Picklyk had a team-high 10 digs.

"A couple guys performed better tonight than they did last night, for sure," Wesmen head coach Larry McKay said. "Overall the team was maybe a little better than last night, but last night was a good match for us. We were under a lot of pressure situations and we were fortunate to get through and tonight their outsides were really frustrating us."

The Heat, who pushed the Wesmen to five sets on Friday, were overwhelmed early, hitting .000 in the first set and .130 for the match.

"I just think they played better than us. It's pretty straightforward," head coach Brad Hudson said. "Offensively, I think our efficiency was OK. Again, we just didn't respond in serve/pass and that's pretty much it. It's the truism of our spot: if you lose serve/pass, you're probably going to lose, and we did a great job of that."

Max Heppell had 12 kills to lead the Heat (0-6) and Noah Campbell added 10.

Winnipeg hit .227 for the match and won the blocking battle with eight to UBCO's four.
