MVB: Canada West’s best honoured as all-stars and all-rookies

Highlights:

  • Canada West’s 2017-18 men’s volleyball all-stars and all-rookies were announced Tuesday
  • A total of 10 combined all-stars and all-rookies are set to compete in the conference semis starting Thursday
  • First-place Trinity Western led the field with a pair of all-stars and all-rookies

EDMONTON –  Some of the top men’s volleyball players in the country were honoured Tuesday, as Canada West unveiled the 2017-18 conference all-stars and all-rookies.

A total of 14 players were named all-stars, with both the first and second teams consisting of seven players, while another seven players were acknowledged as all-rookies for their outstanding freshmen seasons. 

Leading the charge in terms of representation on the teams were the Trinity Western Spartans, who topped the conference regular season standings with a 22-2 record. The defending national champions had a pair of first team all-stars with Adam Schriemer and Eric Loeppky, while Jesse Elser and Jackson Howe were named all-rookies. 

TWU hosts the Winnipeg Wesmen this weekend in the semis, and was one of 12 CW teams who landed at least one player on the three teams.

Joining the Spartans with multiple honourees were the UBC Thunderbirds (three), UBCO Heat (two), Brandon Bobcats (two), Manitoba Bisons (two), and the Alberta Golden Bears (two).

The Thunderbirds and Bears clash this weekend in the other conference semifinal, as the pair meet in Vancouver beginning Friday night.
