REGINA, Sask. – Tim Taylor's 16 kills led the Calgary Dinos to a three-set sweep over the Regina Cougars on Friday night as both teams opened up their Canada West schedules at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

While the opening set saw the Cougars hit for a zero hitting percentage as Calgary took a 25-18 win, the second was a different story. Both teams got the offence moving in the middle set, with the Dinos hitting .425 as a team and the Cougars firing at a .359 clip. The two teams battled through 20 tie scores and four lead changes before Calgary finally took a 30-28 win and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match on a kill by Taylor.

That paved the way for the Dinos' match-clinching 25-16 win in the third. Calgary hit almost as good in the final set as it did in the second, finishing with a .423 hitting percentage in the third frame.

Taylor's 16 kills came on 28 attacks, and with just one error finished with a blazing .536 hitting percentage for the Dinos. Regan Fathers added 11 kills and matched Blain Cranston and Derek Meeuwisse with seven digs, while Cranston added 39 assists while controlling a Calgary offence that finished .386 for the match.

Brennan Goski and Matthew Aubrey both had 11 kills, with Goski adding a match-leading 10 digs to finish with a double-double. Getting the start at setter in his first career Canada West match, rookie Jake Fleming finished with 28 assists. The Cougars also got a solid outing from second-year middle Conal McAinsh, who tallied seven kills on just 10 attacks and hit .600 for the U of R.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night (5:00) at the CKHS.
