MVB: Calgary completes weekend road sweep over Regina

The Calgary Dinos registered their second straight-sets road win over the University of Regina in as many nights on Saturday, winning in three over the Cougars at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The first set was all Calgary as the Dinos hit .409 as a team and cruised to a 25-12 win, though the remainder of the match was more tightly contested. The visitors had to overcome an early 9-3 Regina lead before eventually pulling out a 25-23 win in the second, and the two teams were knotted at 22-22 late in the third before two Alex Bader kills helped the Dinos clinch the match with another 25-23 victory.

Bader had a fine night offensively for Calgary, collecting a match-high 12 digs while hitting at a .476 clip. Regan Fathers and Tim Taylor both added 11 kills, while Liam Laidlaw chipped in with six kills and also led all players with seven blocks. Blain Cranston finished with 39 assists for the second consecutive night and also added 11 digs for a double-double.

Conal McAinsh had nine kills and a match-leading .571 hitting percentage for the Cougars. Brennan Goski added 10 kills and hit .286 for the Cougars, who fall to 0-2 with the loss and will now prepare for a pair of matches at Winnipeg as the Canada West schedule continues next Friday and Saturday.

Calgary (2-0) is also back in action next weekend. The Dinos will host Manitoba (1-1) on Friday and Saturday in their home openers.

NOTES: Calgary hit .356 in the win compared to .176 for the Cougars ... the Dinos also had a 37-20 edge in digs ... Marcus Roflik made his Canada West debut for the Cougars, finishing with two kills and two digs while appearing in all three sets ... Liam Kuppe made a brief appearance late in the first set, his first in a conference match for the Dinos.
