MSOC: Low scores late to lift No. 10 TWU to win over UFV

By Jack Nadelhoffer, Trinity Western University

LANGLEY, B.C. – In a heated battle between local rivals, No. 10 Trinity Western took the game from Fraser Valley by a 2-1 count after a late goal by third-year forward Jacob Low (Port Moody, BC) Friday at Chase Office Field.

After Cody Fransen's (Lynden, Wash.) shot was deflected in the box, Low pounced on the rebound and buried the game-winner in the 85th minute from just a few yards out. With his fourth goal of the year, Low helped TWU (6-1-4) move past UFV (6-3-1) into second place in the Pacific Division.

Fourth-year forward Domenic Poletto (Calgary) got TWU off to a fast start with a deep goal in the eighth minute, putting the Spartans up 1-0. This was Poletto's fourth goal of the year.

UFV answered in the 36th minute with a goal from first-year forward Andrew Peat – his fourth of the season, assisted by Parman Minhas.

A hard tackle resulting in a yellow card for UFV's Ryan Donald gave the Spartans a late first-half scoring opportunity with a free kick for Poletto just outside the box. The shot went just right after a deflection and the Spartans failed to capitalize on the ensuing corner kick.

The Cascades late half strike from Peat equalized hold the score at 1-1 going into the half.

UFV tallied three yellow cards on the night, the last of which, coming via an Anthony Vega tackle, which took TWU's Poletto out of the game.

TWU received their its yellow card in the 84th minute on a tackle by Vito Poletto.
