VANCOUVER – A sensational three goal in seven-minute, second-half sequence gave the UBC Thunderbirds (8-3-1) a 3-1 victory over the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack (4-3-5) at Ken Woods Field on Friday night.

Patrick Izett's seeing-eye strike into the top right corner of the TRU goal in the 82nd minute opened the flood gates for the 'Birds, who got the go ahead goal in the 88th minute off a Connor Guilherme header, and an insurance marker from Mihai Hodut in the 89th.

"In my years doing this, I haven't seen that one," said UBC head coach Mike Mosher when asked about his team's furious comeback. "It was a nice time for that to happen. Perseverance paid off."

Up until Izett's strike, TRU appeared in control of the match after taking a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute off a beautifully executed penalty kick from the foot of former T-Bird Mitchell Popandynetz.

"I'm pumped. It flipped the game for us," said Izett about his 'goal of the year' candidate. "After that we bagged a couple more and I couldn't be happier right now, honestly."

Chad Bush recovered from the penalty kick goal against and shut the door the rest of the way for the 'Birds, but didn't have to make a save in the second half. Of the nine Thompson Rivers fired at the UBC goal, only two hit the target.

TRU goalie Lubomir Magdolen was the busier of the two netminders, turning aside two of the five shots UBC put on net.

Thompson Rivers will look to re-group when they travel to Vancouver Island on Saturday for a match against the Victoria Vikes. UBC will welcome UBC Okanagan to Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday night for a 6:30 p.m. kick-off.
