LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's Elie Gindo (Langley) scored in the 89th minute to secure the Spartans second win of the season with a 2-1 victory over UBC Okanagan Saturday at Chase Office Field.

Having been held to three consecutive draws, the Spartans (2-1-3) were on the verge of a fourth straight tie until Gindo scored from just a few feet out to give the home side a much-needed win.

After Domenic Poletto (Calgary) sent a free kick into the box and Matthew Roxburgh (Langley) redirected it towards Gindo, the Spartans captain did the rest of the work, tapping the ball in from close range.

The goal came after the Heat (1-3-0) had tied the match in the 63rd minute on a Sam McDonald header off a Nikhil Reddy corner kick. The Spartans Austin Kasian (Calgary) opened the scoring in the 49th minute when he got his head to a Leighton Johnson (Calgary) corner and beat UBCO keeper Mitch McCaw.

The Spartans finally found some offence after getting shutout in three of their last four outings. Since earning a victory in their season-opener, the Spartans had gone four games without a win.

After a lackluster first half, TWU discovered its form in the second half, outshooting the Heat 15-4 and putting three shots on target over the final 45 minutes.

First-year TWU goalie Sebastian Colyn (Langley) made three saves to pick up his second win of his Spartans career.

McCaw finished the match with four saves.

"The bottom line is it's a win and I'll take that after the last three games. To get a win in the way that we did builds a lot of character and I'm excited about the future. Hopefully we've reached a tipping point. The character of the group and the perseverance that we've been showing has been immense. To give a goal away and come back and get what we got was huge. The guys didn't give up and we kept fighting hard."

"The key for us is that we worked hard for each other. It was a battle. The first half was going both ways, but in the second half, we came out flying. It was great to get that first goal and then to ice it with that second goal was perfect. A win at home is exactly what we needed."

• TWU remains unbeaten at home against UBCO, with a record of 3-0-1, all-time.
• The Spartans are now unbeaten in four straight matches, posting a 1-0-3 mark in the first four games of their six-game homestand.
• The Heat have allowed two goals in each of their losses this year, falling against UBC (2-1) and Fraser Valley (2-0). Their only win this year was against Victoria (1-0).
• For both Kasian and Gindo, their goals were their first of the 2017 campaign.
