CALGARY – Under the 30°C sun, the Calgary Dinos faced the heat both from the weather and their competition on the soccer field Sunday afternoon. The Canada West coaches' favourite Alberta Golden Bears silenced the Dinos with an authoritative 5-0 win.

In a high intensity match-up, both teams blazed towards each other's boxes with good runs and skillful ball movement. The Dinos, however, fell short on securing shots on goal and were limited to only one in the entire contest. By the 43rd minute of action in the first period, the Dinos were down 3-0 and would be scored on twice after the half.

The Golden Bears' Ajeej Sarkaria and Tolu Esan led the offensive charge against the Dinos with 3 goals, 3 assists, and 10 shots between the two of them.  Daniel Barker-Rothschild and Ajay Khabra accounted for the other two Alberta tallies.

Dinos team captain Cristiano De Carvalho reflected on his team's win against the MacEwan Griffins and loss against the Golden Bears in the opening weekend of their season.

"Yesterday was just kind of like a wake up call to get better. We only beat them 2-1 and we could have played better," he said.

"Today, I thought we started off well but in the first half we gave them their goals. We just gave it to them. We had our chances but they just outplayed us in the second half."

De Carvalho's goals for this season are to get more shutouts and make it to the playoffs.

Next, the Dinos (1-1-0) are scheduled to travel to face the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Sept. 7 as they enjoy the bye next weekend. Alberta (2-0-0), meanwhile, will host the Pronghorns and the Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend in Edmonton.
