MHKY: Pawlenchuk named WHL Grad of the Month

EDMONTON – Alberta Golden Bears rookie forward Grayson Pawlenchuk is the Western Hockey League Grad of the Month for March, as announced Thursday.

The 2018-19 CW Rookie of the Year earns the final monthly honour of the season after posting two goals and four assists in six games over the past month.

  • The former Red Deer Rebel was the 2018-19 CW Rookie of the Year after recording 13G-9A-22PTS in 28 CW regular season games
  • He is the fourth Golden Bear to win a WHL award this season, joining Luke Philp, who was recently signed by the Calgary Flames

Pawlenchuk notched a goal and two assists in Alberta's three-game win over the Saskatchewan Huskies in the CW Final, before adding another goal and two assists in three games at the 2019 University Cup in Lethbridge, where the Bears fell to UNB in the national final.

A veteran of more than 300 WHL games, the former Red Deer Rebel enjoyed an outstanding rookie campaign with Alberta, leading all conference rookies in goals (13), PPG (three), shots (75), and plus/minus (+17).

The Native Studies student is the fourth Golden Bear to earn a WHL honour this season, after Zach Sawchenko, and Jason Fram were named Grads of the Month, while Luke Philp was named the First Half Top Performer.
