REGINA – The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 4-1 to the No. 3-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies at The Co-operators Centre on Friday night, as the Huskies picked up the weekend sweep in the home-and-home series.

Jaimen Yakubowski, Levi Cable, Kohl Bauml and Parker Thomas scored for the Huskies, who improve to 7-1-0 with the win. The Cougars (2-5-1) got a goal from Ben Duperreault.

Taran Kozun was the winning netminder, stopping 23 shots in between the pipes for the Huskies. Michael Herringer took the loss in net for Regina, making 37 saves.

Duperreault opened the scoring just 2:04 in Saturday's contest, as Jordan Burns sent him in on a breakaway and he beat Kozun with a quick shot to the blocker side. Yakubowski replied with his third of the season before the end of the first period, tipping a Donovan Neuls shot past the glove of Herringer.

Cable's goal was the lone marker in the second period, as the fourth-year forward took a feed from Bauml and snapped a shot from the slot to beat Herringer's blocker.

Bauml scored at the 1:36 mark of the third period with a nice deke after a scrum along the boards, and Thomas added to the lead just 26 seconds later with a shot just inside the left post.

Things got chippy after the Thomas goal, as 42 minutes of penalties were handed out in the third period including three 10-minute misconducts. Both teams were 0-for-5 on the powerplay for the game.

The Cougars and Huskies will both be off next weekend as the conference heads into its bye week.
