KAMLOOPS, BC---For the second straight night, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack and the University of Regina Cougars battled hard in Canada West men's basketball.

And for the second straight night, the Cougars came away as victors after scoring some late baskets.  On Saturday (Jan 19) on the championship court at the Tournament Capital Centre, Regina won by a score of 84-77.

The Cougars were powered by a 26-15 advantage in the fourth quarter and got some key baskets down the stretch from Myles Hamilton. Hamilton, a fourth year guard from Berea, Ohio had 22 points to lead the Regina offense along with Samuel Hillis.

Thompson Rivers had four players in double figures led by Joe Davis and Micheal Rouault with 18 points a piece.  Rouault was named the "TRU Bookstore/McDonalds Leader of the Pack" player of the game.

The Cougars are 12-4 on the year while TRU falls to 6-10.

 SYNOPSIS

After playing  in an emotional and high tempo overtime game on Friday night, both teams came out with a spirited effort again.

The Cougars held a five point lead after the opening period thanks to 10 points from Friday's hero: Samuel Hillis.   TRU had a big period out of Anton Bilous who had 11 points.

The teams battled again in the second quarter and were tied at 34 with three minutes left in the period.  TRU outscored Regina 19-15 in the second but it was the Cougars who went into the dressing room leading by one (41-40).  

The WolfPack outscored the Cougars 22-17 in the third quarter thanks to six points from Rouault and four from Bilous.

Thompson Rivers controlled the pain scoring 40 points to Regina's 33 but the Cougars bench outgunned the WolfPack 28-6.

On the Contest: " I thought we played hard. We weren't able to dig in at the end when you need to get a stop. That turned out to be the ball game. They got to the line. I thought our effort was great. They are a great team and it was a close game."

what did he like about his team: "It was a tightly contested battle just like last night. A couple of breaks in the fourth quarter and we nosed ahead and that was the different. Like last night, the game could have gone either way."

UP NEXT:

The  WolfPack  will close out the home portion of their 2018-19 Canada West season with a pair of games next weekend (Jan 25-26) against the University of Manitoba Bisons.  Tip off both nights will be 7 pm at the TCC.

The Cougars will be on the road again next weekend.  This time, it will be at the University of Winnipeg to meet up with the Wesmen.   All of these games are webcast on a pay per view basis on Canada West TV.
