CALGARY – In another dominating performance, the University of Calgary Dinos swept the Mount Royal University Cougars 91-46 in men's basketball action Saturday night in the Jack Simpson Gym.

With the win, the Dinos improve to 14-0 on the year, while Mount Royal falls to 6-8.

After a rough turnover filled 16-13 first quarter in favour of the Dinos, they turned things around in the second quarter stepping up defensively. The Dinos only allowed the Cougars nine-second quarter points to head into the half with a 39-22 lead.

"We stopped turning the ball over a little bit, we had 13 turnovers in the first half that's way too many," said Calgary Head Coach Dan Vanhooren.

In the third quarter, the Dinos exploded offensively scoring 31 points in the frame including a massive dunk by Mambi Diawara to get the crowd on their feet. Andrew Milner also hit a deep three at the end of the quarter that saw nothing but net.

In the final frame, the Dinos extended their lead while some of the bench saw lots of minutes. Mason Foreman took his third charge of the game and Jake Nielson hit his third three pointer of the game.

"Mason is more capable than what he showed tonight but he still works hard the key thing he did was take charges," said Vanhooren. "(Andrew) Milner is the best shooter that we have and he will be able to show that regularly as he career goes on."

Mambi Diawara led the way with 14 points and six rebounds and David Kapinga was right behind him with 12 points and four assists on 6-of-10 shooting. Brett Layton had a near double-double contributing nine points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks.

Kristian Zjak led the Cougars in points contributing 10 points and seven rebounds, while Glen Yang added nine points and five rebounds in the loss.

After struggling in Thursday night's weekend opener with outside shooting, the Dinos found their range from beyond the arc, hitting seven of their 23 attempts while outrebounding their crosstown rivals by a 52-38 margin.

Next for the Dinos is a four-game road trip, beginning with a trip to Edmonton to play MacEwan University on Jan. 11-12. The Cougars will face Lethbridge (6-6) next weekend for a home and away series.
