SASKATOON – An 11-point advantage in the second quarter allowed the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's basketball team to take a lead that they would never surrender, en route to an 88-67 victory over the Brandon Bobcats on Ron & Jane Graham Center Court, November 23.
 
A 47.9% to 33.8% advantage in shooting percentage for Saskatchewan was one of the key differences in the game as the Huskies shot 70.6% in the fourth quarter to hold off a hard-charging Bobcats squad late.
 
JT Robinson recorded a double-double by putting up 23 points and 11 boards, while rookie Alexader Dewar had the best game of his young Huskies career by scoring 16 points off the bench.
 
Canada West leading-scorer Tyvon Cooper lived up to his highly-touted offensive prowess, going three-for-six from beyond the arc en route to scoring 18 points in his 37 minutes on the floor. Pookie Saunders was right there with Cooper, scoring 18 points and adding four rebounds.
 
With the win, the Huskies move to 5-4 on the season while the loss sees Brandon fall to 1-6.
 
The visitors came out of the gates the stronger of the two teams and rode ten points combined from Cooper and Jaleel Webb along with some stifling defence to jump out to an early advantage that saw them lead 16-15 after the first frame.
 
That slim lead wouldn't hold up for long however, and after a JT Robinson three-pointer to make the score 18-16 in favour of Saskatchewan, the home team wouldn't surrender the lead for the rest of the contest.
 
 The Huskies outshot Brandon 45.0% to 26.3% in the second quarter and Robinson scored 13 of his team's 24 points to send the Huskies into the half with a ten-point lead.
 
It was more dominance in the third quarter from the hosts as they hit the glass to the tune of seven more rebounds than the Bobcats and made Brandon pay with their second-chance opportunities to stretch the lead even further, 62-45 through three quarters of action.
 
Brandon put up a fight in the fourth and final frame, led by eight points from Saunders, but the Huskies always found an answer to put an end to any Bobcats run en route to the 21-point victory.
 
These two teams will be back in action tomorrow night when they take to the Ron & Jane Graham Center Court for a scheduled start time of 8:00 p.m.
