EDMONTON - On Saturday evening, the University of Alberta Golden Bears basketball team won their second consecutive game over the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The final score was 85-72, and it was a back and forth game that saw multiple lead changes.

Ivan Ikomey led the way on offence for the Bears, he finished with a game high 17 points, and 5-13 shooting from three, while four other Golden Bears finished in double digits for points.

Freshman Lars Ishimwe had a massive impact on the game for Alberta, collecting six rebounds and three steals in his only playing time this weekend.

Eric Pierce led Lethbridge with 14 points on 5-10 shooting, while Colton Gobb added 10 points and eight boards. 

The Bears jumped out to a 24-16 lead after the first quarter, but Lethbridge fought back with 25 points of their own in the second quarter. Lethbridge controlled the play for the second quarter, and parts of the third quarter, but a late serge by Alberta in the third quarter helped vault them to a 5-3 record, handing Lethbridge their first two losses of the season.

Both teams were in foul trouble in the second half, and that lead to Bears Head Coach Barnaby Craddock relaying on more of his younger players, including Brandon Meiklejohn and Adam Paige.

Brody Clarke continue another spectacular season. He finished with yet another double-double (11 points and 15 rebounds), and is starting to climb the all-time list for points scored for the Golden Bears, as well as rebounds. His eleven points on Saturday evening put him only four points behind Daniel Ferguson for 10th on the all time list, and his 15 rebounds put him ahead of Mike Frisby for 5th on the all time list with 524 in parts of four seasons in Canada West.

Tyus Jefferson is in his first season with Alberta after spending time with Treasure Valley Community College in Oregon. Saturday evening, Jefferson may have had his best game in green and gold. He finished with 15 points in 23 minutes, to go along with five rebounds.

The Pronghorns deployed a defensive press that seemed to give the Golden Bears headaches all evening, but Jefferson was able to slow the play down, and allow his teammates to get open.

After the game when asked how he's adjusting to living in Edmonton, Jefferson smiled and said "Man, it's cold."

The Golden Bears will enjoy a bye week before traveling to face Thompson Rivers University at the end of November.
