MBB: Heat scorched by Pronghorns shooting

Oliver Rizun, Heat Sports Information

KELOWNA, BC - The Lethbridge Pronghorns came out firing on all cylinders on Friday night as they gave the Heat their first loss of the 2018-19 conference season by a 114-64 scoreline.

The Heat would trail 15-2 just over three minutes in the game and were never able to get the deficit back under double-digits for the remainder of the contest.

One of the most potent offensive teams around, Lethbridge would shoot 59% from the field on the night and make 18 three-points (18 of 35).

Another key factor in the game was that the visitors had 35 points off turnovers compared to just 13 for the Heat. The 'Horns press forced UBCO into live ball turnovers all night long which led to multiple easy buckets for Lethbridge.

Individually Philip Okanlawon and Aldrich Berrios finished with 14 points each on the night to lead all Heat players while Triston Matthews finish with 12 points and six boards.

Pronghorns guard Eric Pierce was cooking all night long for the visitors as he dropped a game-high 33 points in just 23 minutes of action which included making six of his eight attempts from behind the arc.

Mike Pierzchala and Colton Gibb would have solid performances of their own for the 'Horns with 17 points to each of their names.

It was a comfortable lead at the half for the visitors as they would lead 64-30 after the first half in the Furnace and the second half would be largely defined by the starters sitting on the bench

Coaches comments:

Heat head boss Ken Olynk noted that while the Heat is no longer undefeated they have to move on to the next game.

"I knew they were gonna be really good, but we gotta comeback and do a lot better job. We gotta forget about this and regroup for tomorrow night."
