CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos wrapped up a weekend sweep of the University of Regina Cougars with a blowout 95-60 win at the Jack Simpson Gym Saturday night.

The Dinos got off to a quick start, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and didn't let up. With 13 points from Mambi Diawara and 10 points from Lars Schlueter, the Dinos went into halftime with a commanding 52-21 lead.

In the second half, the Dinos kept their foot on the gas pedal, scoring 25 points in the third quarter. The Cougars outscored the Dinos in the fourth quarter 23-18 with both teams having emptied their benches with the result not in doubt.

Brett Layton got his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds in tonight's tilt, while Lars Schlueter went off from three scoring 22 points and hitting four out of five from downtown.

"That's what he's capable of and he has had some big nights for us," Dinos Head Coach Dan Vanhooren of his fifth-year German senior.

Braydon Kuski and Kameron Vales each scored 12 points for the Cougars/

The Dinos moved the ball well with confidence creating open shots for their teammates, which was something Vanhooren said he addressed before tonight's game.

"We still have to do a better job of moving the ball to get shots and we need to focus on that," said Vanhooren.

Defensively, the Dinos were at their best only allowing 21 points at the half. They also forced the Cougars to commit 25 turnovers.

"Our defensive rotations and communication really changed the game," said Vanhooren.

The Dinos improve to 2-0 this season after a successful opening weekend and the Cougars will move to 0-2.

Next up for the Dinos is Pack the Jack on Thursday night as they take on the University of Alberta at 8 p.m. at the Jack Simpson Gym. They will then take a trip to Edmonton Saturday Nov. 3 for a rematch with the Bears at 7 p.m. Regina will head home to face the Trinity Western Spartans in the Cougars' home opener next weekend.
