REGINA – The University of Regina's men's basketball team kept rolling on Friday night, winning its sixth consecutive game and handing Lethbridge its first loss of the season after Alex Igual's layup with 2.6 seconds to go gave the Cougars a 79-77 win over the Pronghorns at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

With the game all tied up with six seconds left, Igual took an inbounds pass and drove baseline into the vicinity of three Lethbridge defenders. He finessed a reverse layup off the glass and in, putting the Cougars up by two.

Lethbridge, which had won each of its first eight Canada West games, turned the ball over on the ensuing inbounds pass to seal the win for Regina.

"Obviously tonight's game could have gone either way, and I think both teams turned the ball over more times than either one of us wanted," Cougars head coach Steve Burrows said. "In the first half we did a good job moving the basketball, but in the second they established what they wanted to do and (Dejon) Burdeaux caused us some major issues. I'm happy with a win over a good, well-coached team but we'll have to try to take better care of the ball tomorrow and force them to score in the quarter court."

Six different Cougars scored in double figures, led by Brian Ofori's 15-point performance and Shaquille Harris with 13 points. Igual, Shawn Lathan, and Brandon Tull all had 12 points, while Samuel Hillis finished with 11. Igual also tied for the team lead with six rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists in the win.

The loss overshadowed another fine performance by Burdeaux, Lethbridge's Canada West Player of the Year candidate. Burdeaux was 12-for-18 from the field, 10-for-11 from the line, and scored a season-high 34 points to lift him into second place in the conference in scoring. Colton Gibb and Zac Overwater both had 10 points for Lethbridge, which falls to 8-1 on the season with the loss.

The two teams will clash again on Saturday night (8:00) at the CKHS.

NOTES: The Cougars' six-game winning streak is the program's longest since the 2005-06 season, when they won their last seven games of the Canada West schedule ... though the Cougars also had a seven-game winning streak during the 1997-98 season, they've never won eight straight before.
