WINNIPEG – Justus Alleyn and James Wagner were nearly flawless as the University of Manitoba Bisons topped the MacEwan University Griffins 80-75 in nail-biting men's basketball action on Friday, Nov. 10 at Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Bisons fifth-year guard Alleyn drove to the basket through traffic to throw down a dunk at the start of the second. Alleyn was the Herd's second highest scorer, putting 17 points on the board.

In the same quarter, James Wagner swished a jump shot from the baseline to tie the game 30-30 late in the first half. Wagner was the Herd's top scorer. He posted a whopping 31 points, eight rebounds, and went a perfect nine for nine in free throw attempts.

Griffins guard Adonis Monfort-Palomino drained a buzzer-beater from half-court at the end of the second quarter, but the visitors still trailed the Bisons 34-33 going into the break.

In the last minute of the third quarter, Alleyn got a steal and went the length of the court to slam down his second dunk of the night.

The Griffins fought back in the fourth quarter and had the score tied 75-75 in the final minute, but the Bisons pulled ahead to top the visitors 80-75.

The Bisons are now 4-1 this season and sit fourth in Canada West standings, while the Griffins have a 1-4 record and are 12th in the conference.

The same teams play again on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. CT.
