WINNIPEG – Justus Alleyn found his groove as the University of Manitoba Bisons beat the MacEwan University Griffins 74-55 in men's basketball at Investors Group Athletic Centre on Saturday, Nov.11.

It seemed as though fifth-year captain Alleyn couldn't miss. He was the Bisons top scorer of the night, putting 27 points on the board. He's currently averaging 22.6 points per game and has a shooting efficiency above 50 per cent.

"He's looking more like All-Canadian every game," said Bisons head coach Kirby Schepp. "He's our unquestionable leader."

Bisons post James Wagner had another solid game. He put up 31 points against the Griffins in last night's match up (Nov.10). Tonight, he added 14, and nine rebounds for the Herd.

"He's really starting to come into his own," said Schepp.

Meanwhile, Griffins third-year forward Ali Raza led the scoring for his team. He scored 20 points for the visitors.

Both teams took advantage of transition opportunities. The Herd had a total of six steals in the game and crashed the board aggressively.

On the Griffins side, Adonis Monfort-Palom's intensity earned him a technical foul on Justus Alleyn at the end of the third quarter. Five-foot-nine Monfort-Palom led his team in rebounds, snagging nine.

The Bisons held a steady lead throughout the game, but pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Griffins 25-14. Both teams fell into a lull in the third, scoring a combined 21 points.

The Herd didn't let up in the fourth and sailed to the comfortable 74-55 win. They narrowly won 80-75 against the Griffins in a nail-biter last night (Nov. 10).

The Griffins (1-5) have a bye next weekend (Nov.17/18), while the Bisons (5-1) play next Friday (Nov. 17) against the Mount Royal University Cougars in Calgary at 9 p.m. CT.
