CALGARY – For the second consecutive night the No. 5 University of Calgary Dinos earned a convincing victory over the UBC Thunderbirds.

The Dinos' defence created 28 points off turnovers and used the three-ball to pull away in the second half, defeating the T-Birds 92-74 at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Calgary's record remains perfect at 4-0, while UBC is now even at 2-2.

Tied 14-14 after the first quarter, the Dinos had eight steals in the second and David Kapinga scored 12 points to put Calgary up eight at the half. In the second half, Kapinga began facilitating, ending the game with seven assists to go along with a team-high 24 points and four steals.

"He leads our team on both ends for sure, and he does it in the right way," commented Dinos head coach Dan Vanhooren.

Kapinga and Co. hit seven threes in the third quarter to build a 73-47 lead. The revamped bench contributed offensively for the Dinos, with freshman Mason Foreman adding 11 points, and Lucas Mannes scoring 10 in just his second game as a Dino. Mambi Diawara delivered a quality start for the Dinos once again, finishing with 16 points.

On the defensive end, it was another stellar performance against the No. 1 offence in Canada West. The Dinos held offensive juggernauts Grant Shephard and Phil Jalalpoor to just six points combined, forcing U SPORTS All-Canadian Conor Morgan to shoulder much of the weight for the T-Birds.

Morgan in just his second game of the season found his stride, scoring a game-high 30 points, keeping the T-Birds afloat for much of the game. The Thunderbirds will look to regain their offensive prowess next week when they visit the UNBC Timberwolves.

Up next for the Dan Vanhooren's Dinos is another home contest against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.

"Consistency is key, this season is a grind. You play through Canada West, there are no teams that are easy, and we're going to have to play just as well to beat Winnipeg."
