MBB: No. 3-ranked Golden Bears defeat Wesmen

WINNIPEG – Alberta head coach Barnaby Craddock brought his 3rd ranked Alberta Golden Bears to familiar confines of the Duckworth Centre. However, the Wesmen had other designs on how the night would unfold.

Craddock had turned around his teams play in the second quarter. Matching the Wesmen resolve, the Bears on the backs of Austin Waddoups (7 pts) and Mamadou Gueye (6 pts) had turned the moment of the game. First year, Don Dayrit led all Wesmen scores in the quarter draining 3 shots beyond the 3 point line. At half time, the Wesmen held a one-point lead. (40-39)

In the 3rd quarter both teams repeated the same line score as the second quarter the Bears outscored the Wesmen 21-17. Leading the way for the Wesmen was Billy Yaworsky draining 7 points. Bears were led by Brody Clake in the quarter also dropping 7 points.

The Fourth and final quarter, The Wesmen came out fighting hard against the Bears. Matching runs down the floor, it was Will Sesay turn to lead the Wesmen putting up 6 points in the quarter. Not to be outdone, Bears Geoff Pippus lead his team with 9 points. The final whistle and the bears had taken the game 90 – 79.
