Wesmen-Dinos Stats

by Ben Matchett, U of Calgary Sports Information

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos could be forgiven for being a little sluggish early – but a second half to remember by seniors Tyler Fidler and Boris Bakovic lifted Calgary to a 94-78 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday night.

Winnipeg closes the season with a 4-16 record, while the Dinos end up with the unlikeliest of .500 marks at 10-10, needing a six-game win streak down the stretch to reach that milestone. The fourth-place team in the Prairie Division, Calgary will take on the winner of the Pacific Division in a best-of-three Canada West quarter-final in two weeks’ time.

Eric Zimmerman had a big night off the bench for the Wesmen, shooting 8 of 14 from the field to score 25, hauling down nine rebounds in the process. He was joined on the Winnipeg leaderboard by Mark McNee’s 14 points along with 11 from Andrew Cunningham.

Fidler and Bakovic combined for 47 points on the night, while Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson took a back seat and let the seniors do most of the scoring – and still ended up with 19 points.

Bakovic wraps up his career with 2,282 points – exactly 100 better than Andrew Spagrud, the man he passed to become the unofficial leading scorer in Canadian university basketball history.
